Principal Reponsibilities

5.1 Patient Care:

5.1.1 Assessment

  • To utilise techniques of observation, interview, measurement and physical examination in making a comprehensive assessment of the patient.
  • To obtain and document a patient assessment which incorporation and interpretation of physiological, psychological, spiritual and socio-economic data from all available resources.
  • To identify from assessment actual and potential problems in collaboration with patient and senior nursing personnel and escalates and acts on it timely


5.1.2 Planning


  • Seek to include significant others in planning.
  • To plan nursing care using the nursing process. Plan priorities of care.


  • To refer problems with less predictable outcomes to senior nursing personnel.
  • To continually update the nursing care plan as patient status demands.


Β 5.1.3 Implementation

To deliver care as prescribed by nursing care plan, setting priorities in the delivery of care.Β 

5.1.4 Evaluation

  • To evaluate each shift aspect of nursing intervention and document.
  • To revise care plans if outcomes cannot be met.
  • To communicate evaluation and subsequent plan to patient/significant others and healthcare team.

5.2 Human Resource Management:

  1. To participate in the performance appraisal of new Registered Nurse.


Β 5.3 Budgetary Management:

  1. To advise Ward In-charge/Nursing Supervisor of malfunctioning equipment.
  2. To utilise resources effectively and efficiently.


5.4Β Quality Assurance:

  1. To participate in the department’s quality improvement initiatives.
  2. To encourage staff participation in department’s quality improvement initiatives.
  3. To supervise and instructs the nursing team in nursing care and procedures.
  4. To adhere to hospital’s safety norms and follow both patient safety and staff safety rules. To identify unsafe care practices and contribute to corrective action.


  1. Liaison and Communication:
    1. To support Hospital’s policies and procedures.
    2. To attend nursing meetings on a regular basis.Β 


5.6 Personal and Professional:

  1. To participate in professional organisations.
  2. Β To maintain current trends in nursing practice and management through formal education and self-development efforts.
  3. To maintain professional knowledge, skills and accept responsibility for own education and career development.
  4. Participate in hospital information system efficiently for patient admission, transfer ,discharge, assessment and care plan
  5. To ensure that the established principles of Infection Control are practiced.
  6. She is able to participate as a team member in emergency code activation and clinical path ways
  7. To be aware of department’s performance and objectives.
  8. To perform any other duties as directed by Ward In-charge/Nursing Supervisor/Assistant Nursing Superintendent.
