About this role

  • Prepare the Operation Theatre before scheduled surgical procedures.
  • Ensure the availability and readiness of surgical instruments, equipment, consumables, and required OT supplies.
  • Assist surgeons, anesthetists, and nursing staff during surgical procedures.
  • Arrange and prepare surgical instruments and equipment according to the type of procedure.
  • Maintain strict aseptic and sterile techniques throughout surgical procedures.
  • Perform and assist with instrument, equipment, and OT area sterilization as per established protocols.
  • Check the functionality and safety of OT equipment before every procedure.
  • Assist in setting up operating tables, surgical lights, suction apparatus, cautery, and other equipment.
  • Ensure proper instrument, sponge, swab, needle, and consumable counts before, during, and after procedures.
  • Assist in safe patient transfer and positioning according to the surgical requirement.
  • Support the team during elective, emergency, and critical surgical procedures.
  • Coordinate with CSSD for the timely availability of sterile instruments and surgical sets.
  • Coordinate with the Anesthesia, Nursing, Biomedical, Pharmacy, and other concerned departments as required.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and maintenance of surgical instruments and OT equipment.
  • Monitor the availability of OT consumables and promptly communicate stock requirements.
  • Maintain OT records, checklists, registers, equipment logs, and procedure-related documentation.
  • Follow biomedical waste management guidelines for proper segregation and disposal of waste.
  • Assist in maintaining infection-control standards and participate in infection-prevention initiatives.
  • Report equipment malfunction, damage, shortage, or safety concerns to the OT In-Charge immediately.
  • Ensure emergency equipment and supplies are readily available for emergency procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining OT readiness between procedures and ensure timely turnover of the theatre.
  • Participate in quality audits, accreditation activities, and OT safety programs.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with hospital policies and ethical standards.
  • Attend training programs and competency assessments to improve technical knowledge and skills.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the OT In-Charge, OT Manager, or Department Head.
