Subject Matter Expert (Support&Ops)
About this role
Job Summary
- Onboard workloads (VMs, databases, NAS, cloud workloads) into backup tools with required policies
- Manage clusters, SLA domains, retention policies, replication, and archival
- Monitor daily backup jobs and ensure SLA compliance
- Troubleshoot failures, performance issues, and restore challenges
- Perform backup validation and periodic restore testing
- Monitor backup health, performance, and capacity
- Resolve incidents and perform root cause analysis (RCA)
- Optimize policies, storage usage, and backup efficiency
- Create SOPs, runbooks, and technical documentation
- Follow ITIL processes (incident, change, problem management)
- Execute backup and restore in a virtualized infrastructure
- Take snapshot backup in virtualized infrastructure
- Perform back up task operations on-cloud & on prem infrastructure
- Backup migration for database backups from different location/Regions.
Key Responsibilities
- Performance tuning and optimization for Rubrik and storage.
- Work closely with Storage team for storage related issues.
- Scripting / Automation of Major/ Complex Tasks ( added advantage)
- Analyze existing backup environment and provide expert advice for optimizations
- Understanding functionalities of key Backup components/processes
- Deduplication/ Encryption / Replication / Reclamation / Migration / Snapshot / Retentions
- Diagnose backup issues and follow up with root cause analysis.
- Developing knowledge of data backup and restoration methodologies
- Basic ability to apply change control procedures
- Organizational skills with the ability to provide quality at pace
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work under pressure
- Ability to work at a team level as well as an individual level
- Ability to interact confidently with more senior and/or skilled areas of the business
- Able to communicate constructive feedback effectively
- Ability to adapt to changing business and technology requirements.
- Sound problem solving and troubleshooting skills

- Experience Required 10+ Years of Backup Administration experience
- Administration experience with Backup software Commvault
