The Resident - Oncology Services is responsible for providing comprehensive medical care to oncology patients under the guidance of Consultants. The role involves inpatient and outpatient management, coordination of cancer treatment plans, monitoring chemotherapy and supportive care, participating in multidisciplinary discussions, and ensuring high standards of patient safety and clinical excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
- Assess, diagnose, and manage patients with various oncological conditions.
- Conduct daily rounds and monitor the progress of admitted oncology patients.
- Assist consultants in planning and implementing treatment protocols.
- Evaluate patients before chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and supportive treatments.
- Monitor patients for treatment-related complications and adverse events.
- Provide emergency care and stabilization for oncology-related emergencies.
- Perform clinical procedures within the scope of training and hospital guidelines.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient medical records.
Patient Care
- Educate patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, prognosis, and follow-up care.
- Coordinate patient care with nursing staff and allied healthcare professionals.
- Ensure compassionate, patient-centered care and address patient concerns effectively.
- Participate in palliative and supportive care management when required.
Academic & Research Activities
- Attend departmental meetings, tumor boards, CMEs, and academic sessions.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and research activities.
- Present case discussions, journal reviews, and academic presentations.
