Planning Manager - EHV Substations

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Scheduling

• Develop and maintain integrated project schedules for EHV substation projects (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Testing & Commissioning).
• Establish and maintain Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) aligned with project execution requirements.
• Support the development and review of Primavera P6 schedules prepared by project schedulers.
• Review project sequencing, identify critical path activities, and recommend mitigation and recovery strategies.
• Coordinate planning activities across engineering, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning disciplines.

Progress Monitoring & Reporting

• Monitor project progress against approved baseline schedules.
• Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports, dashboards, and management presentations.
• Track engineering deliverables, procurement status, material availability, construction progress, and commissioning readiness.
• Analyse schedule variances and recommend corrective actions.
• Support client progress meetings and internal management reviews.

Interface Coordination

• Coordinate planning activities with Engineering, Procurement, Construction, QA/QC, Contracts, and Commissioning teams.
• Monitor vendor deliverables and long-lead equipment to ensure alignment with project schedules.
• Ensure effective coordination between civil, electrical, mechanical, and commissioning activities within the substation.

Risk & Change Management

• Identify schedule risks and support the development of mitigation plans.
• Evaluate the schedule impact of variations and change orders.
• Support Extension of Time (EOT) assessments from a planning perspective.
• Maintain planning records to support contractual and commercial requirements.

Required Competencies

Technical

• Extensive experience in planning and execution of EHV Substation projects.
• Strong understanding of construction methodologies and commissioning sequences for 765 kV and 400 kV substations.
• Good working knowledge of Primavera P6 (basic to intermediate proficiency is sufficient).
• Sound understanding of EPC project execution and planning principles.
• Familiarity with international standards applicable to EHV substations (IEC and IEEE).
• Ability to review, validate, and coordinate detailed schedules prepared by planning engineers and schedulers.
