About this role
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Patient Care and Clinical Monitoring
Provide safe, evidence-based, and compassionate everyday care for an allocated group of patients.
Perform and accurately record clinical observations—including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration rates, and blood glucose levels.
Monitor patient conditions continually, recognizing and responding promptly to signs of clinical deterioration, and escalating concerns to a Registered Nurse or medical professional.
Assist patients with essential daily living needs, ensuring privacy, dignity, and safety are maintained at all times.
2. Clinical Procedures and Interventions
Depending on specialized training and local service requirements, clinical tasks may include:
Undertaking venepuncture (drawing blood) and recording electrocardiograms (ECGs).
Administering medications and injections (such as intramuscular, subcutaneous, or topical treatments) where certified.
Managing wound care, dressing changes, and tracking nutritional/fluid intake.
Assisting with specialized clinical tasks like catheter care.
3. Communication and Teamwork
Communicate effectively and sensitively with patients, families, and carers—particularly when dealing with unwelcome news, complex conditions, or emotional distress.
Share clear, concise verbal and written updates with registered nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team regarding patient behavior, responses, and changing conditions.
Act as a patient advocate to protect their rights, interests, and inclusion.
4. Safety, Governance, and Safeguarding
Maintain compliance with local and national clinical policies, infection control guidelines, and health and safety regulations.
Recognize risks to safety and safeguard vulnerable adults and children, raising concerns immediately via appropriate pathways.
Maintain accurate, legible, and timely clinical records in compliance with data protection and confidentiality laws.
Person Specification / Qualifications
Education & Training: Foundation Degree or equivalent qualification specifically tailored for Nursing Associates approved by the NMC.
Registration: Active registration as a Nursing Associate with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
Skills & Knowledge:
Comprehensive understanding of the UK nursing process and the limits of own professional competence.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks and manage workload safely under indirect supervision.
