About this role

The Manufacturing Engineer R2R Test will design, implement, and optimize roll‑to‑roll (R2R) testing procedures that ensure quality and efficiency across Ford’s production lines. Working within department 1000001437, you will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to translate test data into actionable improvements, support new model launches, and maintain compliance with safety and regulatory standards. This role blends hands‑on troubleshooting with data‑driven analysis to sustain Ford’s commitment to manufacturing excellence.

  • Develop and validate R2R test plans, fixtures, and equipment for new and existing vehicle platforms.
  • Analyze test data to identify root causes of failures and recommend corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with design, quality, and production teams to integrate test requirements early in the development cycle.
  • Lead pilot runs and scale‑up activities, ensuring smooth transition from prototype to full‑scale production.
  • Maintain and calibrate test hardware, ensuring accuracy and repeatability of measurements.
  • Create and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions for R2R testing.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, and other methodologies.
  • Provide technical training and mentorship to production operators and junior engineers.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to test throughput, yield, and reliability.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements throughout testing activities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in automotive manufacturing or test engineering, preferably with roll‑to‑roll processes.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Minitab, JMP, Python, or MATLAB).
  • Hands‑on experience with test fixture design, instrumentation, and automation.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to conduct root‑cause analysis.
  • Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement frameworks.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills across multidisciplinary groups.
  • Familiarity with GD&T, ISO/TS 16949, and automotive safety standards.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
  • Ford internal security clearance or eligibility to obtain one.
