Junior Perfusionist - Operation Theatre

• Responsively sets up and operates heart –lung machine in operation theatre to take over functions of patients heart and lungs during surgery i.e. check for ;

a) Power supply, all the sockets and connection to heart lung machine and TCM.

b) Medical gases.

c) Battery of heart lung machine.

d) Demo run of machine.

• Responsively reviews patient medical history and chart, and consults with surgeon and physician to obtain patient information needed to set up heart – lung machine and associated equipments.

• Properly Selects, assembles, sets up and test heart lung machine to ensure that machine and associated equipments are functioning according to specifications and transcribe medication which are consumed.

• Effectively Operates heart lung machine to regulate blood circulation and composition to administer drugs and anesthetic agents to control body temperature and other parameters during surgery.

• Responsively monitors and observe operation of heart lung machine and patients physiologic variables such as blood temperature, blood composition and flow rate and adjust equipments to maintain normal body temperature thereby Cleans and adjust parts of heart lung machine and disconnects it after use and ensure cleaning and sterilization.

• Maintains, assembles and operates the cell saver in an operating room.

• Responsible in providing intra operative and follow up heparin analysis for cardiac and other surgical procedures as required during heart surgery.

• Efficiently Conducts quality assurance and safety checks and maintains perfusion equipment in coordination with biomedical engineering department such as heart lung machines, temperature control modules, intra aortic balloons pumps, blood gas and electrolyte analysers, heparin management systems, cell savers and physiological monitoring devices. Equipments that is malfunctioning is reported to the biomedical engineering department.

• Maintains related patients record of cardiopulmonary bypass surgical procedures and ensure updated knowledge of laid down procedures..

• Possesses knowledge of infection control and waste management.

• Ensures JCI compliances in accordance with departmental requirements.
