Job Description: General Manager – Operations
Position Overview
The General Manager – Operations is responsible for leading and managing the organization’s day-to-day operational activities to ensure efficient, reliable, and high-quality business performance. The role involves developing operational strategies, managing cross-functional teams, optimizing processes, controlling costs, and ensuring that operational objectives are aligned with overall business goals.
The position requires a results-oriented leader with strong business judgment, operational expertise, and the ability to drive continuous improvement across people, processes, systems, and service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Leadership and Strategy
- Develop and execute operational plans that support the organization’s business objectives and growth strategy.
- Establish clear operational goals, performance standards, and accountability mechanisms across departments.
- Oversee daily operations to ensure timely, efficient, and consistent delivery of products or services.
- Identify operational risks, bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities, and implement effective corrective actions.
- Translate organizational strategy into practical initiatives, measurable targets, and execution plans.
Team and People Management
- Lead, mentor, and manage operational teams to build a high-performance and collaborative work environment.
- Define responsibilities, set performance expectations, and conduct regular reviews of team and individual performance.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, training, succession planning, and employee development initiatives.
- Promote effective communication, employee engagement, and adherence to organizational values and policies.
- Resolve operational and interpersonal issues in a timely, professional, and constructive manner.
Process Improvement and Operational Excellence
- Review and improve workflows, procedures, and operating models to enhance productivity and service quality.

Financial and Resource Management
- Prepare and manage operational budgets in coordination with senior leadership and relevant departments.
- Monitor expenses, resource utilization, and operating costs to support financial discipline and profitability.
- Ensure the effective allocation of personnel, facilities, equipment, and other operational resources.
- Identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency without compromising quality, compliance, or customer experience.
Quality, Compliance, and Risk Management
- Establish and maintain operational standards, quality controls, and service-level expectations.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, internal policies, health and safety requirements, and industry standards.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate operational risks through appropriate controls and contingency planning.
- Coordinate audits, inspections, incident reviews, and corrective or preventive actions as required.
- Maintain accurate operational records and ensure timely reporting to senior management.
Stakeholder and Customer Management
- Build effective working relationships with internal departments, customers, vendors, partners, and other stakeholders.
- Collaborate with sales, finance, human resources, procurement, technology, and other functions to achieve business objectives.
- Monitor customer feedback and service outcomes, ensuring that operational issues are addressed promptly.
- Represent the operations function in management meetings, business reviews, and strategic discussions.
Performance Reporting
- Define and monitor key performance indicators related to productivity, quality, cost, delivery, customer satisfaction, and employee performance.
- Prepare regular operational reports, management updates, and performance reviews.
- Present recommendations and action plans based on operational results, business trends, and emerging risks.
- Ensure that agreed initiatives are tracked through completion and deliver measurable outcomes.
Key Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Engineering, or a related field; a relevant postgraduate qualification is an advantage.
- Significant experience in operations management, including experience leading teams and managing multiple operational functions.
- Proven ability to develop and implement operational strategies, processes, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Strong understanding of budgeting, cost control, resource planning, quality management, and risk mitigation.
