Job Summary

The Echo Technologist is responsible for performing high-quality echocardiographic examinations to assist cardiologists in the diagnosis and management of cardiovascular diseases. The role involves conducting various cardiac ultrasound procedures, maintaining accurate patient records, ensuring patient safety and comfort, and adhering to established clinical protocols.


Key Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Perform transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) examinations as per physician requests.
  • Assist cardiologists during Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) and Stress Echocardiography procedures.
  • Acquire and optimize high-quality cardiac ultrasound images and Doppler studies.
  • Record and document measurements, findings, and preliminary observations accurately.
  • Identify abnormal findings and promptly communicate urgent observations to cardiologists.
  • Prepare patients for procedures and explain examination processes.
  • Monitor patient condition during diagnostic procedures.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold ethical standards.

Equipment Management

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot echocardiography machines and related equipment.
  • Ensure equipment calibration and routine quality checks are completed.
  • Report equipment malfunctions to biomedical engineering and concerned authorities.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate patient records, reports, and examination logs.
  • Ensure compliance with NABH, hospital policies, infection control, and quality standards.
  • Participate in departmental audits, quality improvement initiatives, and accreditation activities.
  • Adhere to radiation safety and patient safety protocols wherever applicable.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with cardiologists, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals.
  • Assist in cardiac diagnostic procedures and emergency cardiac assessments as required.
  • Support training and orientation of junior staff and students.

Qualifications

Education

  • B.Sc. Cardiac Technology / B.Sc. Cardiovascular Technology / Allied Health Sciences.
  • Diploma or Certification in Echocardiography preferred.

Experience

  • 1 to 5 years of experience in a Cardiology Department performing echocardiography procedures.
  • Experience in a tertiary care hospital is preferred.
