Position Overview
The Assistant General Manager β Project Delivery is responsible for leading the successful planning, execution, monitoring, and completion of projects in accordance with approved scope, schedule, budget, quality standards, and organizational objectives. The role requires strong project leadership, stakeholder management, commercial awareness, and the ability to coordinate cross-functional teams throughout the project lifecycle.
The position will work closely with internal departments, clients, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure that projects are delivered efficiently, safely, and in line with business and customer expectations. The incumbent will also contribute to process improvement, risk management, project governance, and the development of project delivery capabilities within the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning and Delivery
- Lead the end-to-end delivery of assigned projects from initiation and planning through execution, commissioning, handover, and closure.
- Define project objectives, deliverables, milestones, resource requirements, and delivery strategies in coordination with relevant stakeholders.
- Establish project plans, schedules, budgets, reporting structures, and performance management mechanisms.
- Ensure that project activities are executed in accordance with approved plans, contractual obligations, organizational policies, and applicable standards.
- Monitor progress against scope, schedule, cost, quality, and performance targets, taking timely corrective action where required.
- Coordinate project activities across engineering, procurement, construction, operations, finance, legal, quality, safety, and other supporting functions.
- Ensure timely resolution of project issues, constraints, dependencies, and operational challenges.
Team Leadership and Coordination
- Lead, guide, and motivate project managers, project engineers, site teams, consultants, contractors, and other project personnel.
- Allocate responsibilities and resources effectively to support efficient project execution.
- Promote accountability, collaboration, and a performance-driven culture across project teams.
- Review team performance and provide coaching, mentoring, and development support.
- Facilitate regular project meetings and ensure that actions, decisions, and responsibilities are clearly documented and followed through.
Stakeholder and Client Management
- Serve as a key point of contact for clients, senior management, consultants, contractors, vendors, and other project stakeholders.
- Build and maintain strong professional relationships throughout the project lifecycle.
- Communicate project status, risks, changes, achievements, and critical decisions clearly and proactively.
- Manage stakeholder expectations and ensure alignment on project objectives, deliverables, timelines, and responsibilities.
- Support the resolution of client concerns, disputes, and escalated project matters in a timely and professional manner.
Cost, Commercial, and Contract Management
- Monitor project budgets, expenditure, forecasts, cash flow, and cost performance.
- Ensure effective control of variations, claims, change orders, purchase commitments, and contractual obligations.
- Coordinate with commercial, procurement, and finance teams to support cost-effective project delivery.
- Review contractor and supplier performance against contractual requirements, schedules, quality expectations, and commercial terms.
- Identify opportunities to improve project profitability, productivity, resource utilization, and delivery efficiency.
Risk, Quality, Health, Safety, and Compliance
- Identify, evaluate, and manage project risks, opportunities, assumptions, and dependencies.
- Develop and implement risk mitigation and contingency plans for critical project issues.
- Ensure compliance with quality management systems, statutory requirements, industry standards, contractual conditions, and organizational procedures.
- Promote a strong health, safety, and environmental culture across all project activities.
- Support audits, inspections, quality reviews, safety assessments, and compliance evaluations.
- Ensure that non-conformances, incidents, defects, and corrective actions are tracked and closed effectively.
Reporting and Governance
- Prepare and present regular project reports, dashboards, progress updates, forecasts, and management summaries.
- Provide accurate visibility of project health, including scope, schedule, cost, risks, issues, quality, resources, and stakeholder status.
- Escalate significant deviations and critical decisions to senior management with appropriate recommendations.
- Maintain complete and accurate project documentation, records, approvals, correspondence, and closeout information.
- Ensure that project governance, approval processes, stage-gate requirements, and reporting protocols are consistently followed.
Project Handover and Continuous Improvement
- Ensure that project deliverables are completed, tested, commissioned, accepted, and handed over in accordance with agreed requirements.
- Coordinate documentation, training, warranties, operations readiness, defect resolution, and final closeout activities.
- Conduct post-project reviews and capture lessons learned for future projects.
- Identify and implement improvements in project management systems, processes, tools, and delivery methodologies.
- Support the development of standard operating procedures, project controls, templates, and best practices.
Key Requirements
Education and Experience
- Bachelorβs degree in engineering, construction management, project management, business administration, or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience in project delivery, project management, engineering, construction, infrastructure, operations, or a related field.
- Proven experience managing complex, multidisciplinary projects from initiation through completion.
- Experience in a managerial or senior project leadership position with responsibility for teams, budgets, schedules, contractors, and stakeholder relationships.
- Professional project management certification such as PMP, PRINCE2, or an equivalent qualification is desirable.
Technical and Professional Skills
- Strong knowledge of project management principles, methodologies, controls, and governance practices.
- Demonstrated ability to manage project scope, schedules, budgets, resources, risks, quality, and contractual deliverables.
- Strong understanding of procurement, contract administration, cost control, change management, and project reporting.
- Proficiency in project management and reporting tools, scheduling applications, Microsoft Office, and related business systems.
- Ability to interpret technical documentation, drawings, specifications, contracts, schedules, and commercial information.
