JOB DESCRIPTION – ASSISTANT CLINICAL NURSE

Reports To: Nursing In-Charge / Nursing Supervisor
Location: Hospital
Job Purpose
To provide safe, compassionate, and quality nursing care to patients under the supervision of senior nursing staff, while ensuring compliance with hospital policies, clinical protocols, and patient-safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct nursing care to patients as per the prescribed treatment plan and hospital protocols.
Monitor and record patients’ vital signs, clinical condition, intake/output, and other relevant observations.
Assist doctors and senior nurses during examinations, procedures, treatments, and emergencies.
Administer medications safely as prescribed and maintain proper medication records.
Perform nursing procedures within the scope of practice and ensure appropriate infection-control practices.
Maintain accurate and timely nursing documentation and patient records.
Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge procedures.
Ensure proper identification of patients before medication administration, procedures, and investigations.
Maintain cleanliness, safety, and readiness of the patient care area.
Educate patients and attendants regarding basic care, medication instructions, hygiene, and safety measures as directed.
Report any changes in the patient's condition promptly to the Nursing In-Charge/doctor.
Follow hospital policies related to infection prevention, patient safety, medication safety, and emergency response.
Assist in maintaining adequate stock of medicines, consumables, and nursing supplies.
Participate in handovers and communicate relevant patient information accurately.
Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times.
Participate in training, competency assessments, audits, and quality-improvement activities.
Perform any other nursing-related duties assigned by the Nursing In-Charge or management.
Required Qualifications
B.Sc. Nursing / GNM from a recognized institution.
Valid registration with the respective State Nursing Council.
Basic knowledge of nursing procedures, infection control, medication administration, and patient safety.
Basic computer knowledge and ability to maintain electronic/physical patient records.
Experience
0–2 years of relevant hospital nursing experience preferred.
Freshers with the required qualification and registration may also be considered, depending on hospital requirements.
