About this role

Position Summary

The Watersports Team Leader is responsible for the daily supervision and operation of the Watersports Department, ensuring the delivery of safe, professional, and exceptional guest experiences. The incumbent oversees Watersports activities, manages team members, ensures compliance with safety regulations, maintains equipment, and promotes the resort's commitment to outstanding guest service.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Supervision                                                                                      

  • Supervise, motivate, and lead the Watersports team to achieve departmental objectives.
  • Prepare staff schedules and coordinate daily assignments.
  • Conduct training, coaching, and performance evaluations for team members.
  • Ensure adherence to resort policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment.

Guest Experience

  • Deliver exceptional guest service and ensure all guests receive personalized attention.
  • Provide information and guidance regarding Watersports activities and equipment usage.
  • Address guest concerns and resolve complaints promptly and professionally.
  • Promote participation in Watersports activities and resort programs.

Operations Management

  • Coordinate and oversee daily Watersports operations, including:
    • Sailing, Kayaking, Paddleboarding, Snorkeling, Windsurfing, Catamaran excursions, and other approved Watersports activities
  • Ensure all activities are conducted safely and in accordance with local maritime regulations.
  • Monitor weather and sea conditions and make operational decisions accordingly.
  • Maintain accurate activity logs and departmental records.

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections of equipment and operational areas.
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of lifesaving equipment.
  • Lead emergency response procedures and coordinate rescue operations when necessary.
  • Ensure all team members maintain required certifications and licenses.

Equipment Management

  • Monitor the condition of Watersports equipment and facilities.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance and repairs.
  • Maintain inventory of equipment, supplies, and safety gear.
  • Report equipment deficiencies and recommend replacements as needed.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Prepare operational reports and incident reports.
  • Assist with departmental budgeting and cost control measures.
  • Monitor departmental expenses and inventory usage.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and planning sessions.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma or Certificate in Sports Management, Recreation, Hospitality, Marine Operations, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in Watersports operations, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
  • Experience working in a luxury resort or hospitality environment is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Watersports equipment, marine safety practices, and rescue techniques.

Required Certifications

  • Valid Lifeguard Certification.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Open Water Rescue Certification or equivalent.
  • Boat Captain's License (preferred).
  • PADI Divemaster or equivalent certification (an asset).

  • Ability to stand, walk, and remain active for extended periods.
