An Operation Theatre (OT) Technician is a vital allied healthcare professional responsible forΒ preparing, maintaining, and managing the surgical environment, equipment, and assisting the surgical team before, during, and after operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Pre-Operative Duties (Before Surgery)
- Sterilization: Fumigate, sanitize, and clean the operating theatre, ensuring absolute infection control.
- Setup: Calibrate, check, and arrange surgical instruments, anesthesia machines, and monitoring devices aseptically.
- Patient Preparation: Transport patients safely to the OT, verify details, and assist in proper surgical positioning and draping.
2. Intra-Operative Duties (During Surgery)
- Surgical Assistance: Hand sterile instruments, supplies, and suction fluids to surgeons.
- Equipment Management: Adjust surgical lights, monitor equipment functionality, and support the anesthesiologist as required.
3. Post-Operative Duties (After Surgery)
- Patient Transfer: Move patients safely from the OT to the recovery room.
- Cleanup and Restocking: Clean and sterilize used instruments, properly dispose of biomedical waste, and restock the room for the next procedure.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Education: Diploma or B.Sc. in Operation Theatre Technology (OTT) or relevant paramedical certification.
- Core Knowledge: Strong understanding of surgical instrumentation, aseptic techniques, and biomedical safety protocols.
