Job Description

Student Counsellor
Location: Auckland Airport 
Full-time | Fixed-Term | NZST Auckland Airport Campus 

About the role:

This is a 6-month fixed-term position until March 2027.

We are seeking a Student Counsellor to provide ethical, confidential, and professional counselling services that support learner wellbeing, engagement, and retention across Yoobee. Based at our Auckland Airport Campus, this role delivers services nationally and supports learners across Yoobee College of Creative Innovation, New Zealand School of Tourism, Elite, Cut Above Academy, and South Seas – Film School.

The role provides short- to medium-term counselling, crisis support, and wellbeing workshops within a tertiary education setting. You will work with learners from diverse cultural, social, and educational backgrounds, applying trauma-informed, strengths-based, and culturally responsive practice, with particular capability to engage Māori and Moana Oceania learners and uphold Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles.

Success in this role requires strong relational practice, sound clinical judgement, and the ability to work collaboratively with academic and student support teams while maintaining professional boundaries and clinical independence.

Qualifications

About you :

  • Relevant degree/postgraduate qualification in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work or similar
  • Eligible for NZAC (or equivalent) professional registration
  • Experience in tertiary, youth or community counselling settings
  • Competent in short to medium term counselling, including crisis and risk management
  • Strong relational and communication skills with diverse learners
  • Culturally responsive practice, including engagement with Māori and Moana Oceania learners
