Sr Subject Matter Expert (Support&Ops)

Job Summary

Manage, administer, and maintain PostgreSQL database environments to ensure high availability, performance, and reliability. Perform database installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, and migration activities across development, test, and production environments. Monitor database health, performance, storage utilization, and capacity planning using appropriate monitoring tools. Troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues related to performance, locking, replication, connectivity, backups, and recovery. Design and implement high-availability and disaster recovery solutions using PostgreSQL replication, clustering, and failover technologies. Analyze and optimize SQL queries, indexes, execution plans, and database configurations to improve performance. Manage backup and recovery strategies, conduct restoration testing, and ensure adherence to recovery point and recovery time objectives (RPO/RTO). Implement and maintain database security controls, including user management, role-based access, encryption, auditing, and compliance requirements. Support application teams in database design, schema optimization, and performance tuning activities. Automate routine database administration tasks using scripting languages such as Shell, Python, or PowerShell. Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for database incidents and implement preventive measures to avoid recurrence. Support PostgreSQL replication technologies including Streaming Replication, Logical Replication, and related HA solutions. Develop and maintain operational documentation, SOPs, runbooks, architecture diagrams, and knowledge base articles. Collaborate with infrastructure, application, cloud, and security teams to ensure seamless database operations. Provide L3 escalation support for critical production incidents and mentor L1/L2 database administrators.

Other Requirements

6-10 years of database administration experience with strong PostgreSQL expertise. Experience with PostgreSQL versions 11/12/13/14/15/16. Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL architecture, WAL, VACUUM, indexing, partitioning, and query optimization. Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS RDS, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, or Google Cloud SQL. Knowledge of HA tools such as Pgpool-II, Patroni, PgBouncer, RepMgr, or EDB solutions. Experience with backup tools such as pgBackRest, Barman, or native PostgreSQL utilities. Familiarity with Linux administration and scripting. Strong troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.
