Job Summary
Xylem is seeking a motivated, hands-on individual to join our team as a Shop Technician. This is an entry-level, development-focused opportunity for someone looking to build their technical skills and gain experience in an electromechanical environment.
Candidates with experience or training in electromechanical systems, electrical, mechanical, industrial equipment, pumps, or related skilled trades are encouraged to apply. This role is also a great opportunity for recent graduates of a trade school or technical program who are looking to begin or grow their career in a hands-on technical environment.
The Shop Technician is responsible for evaluating, repairing, and testing submersible wastewater pumps in a shop environment. Product-specific training will be provided.
Essential Responsibilities
- Evaluate, repair, and test submersible wastewater pumps.
- Perform basic electrical and mechanical troubleshooting.
- Operate shop equipment, including forklifts, overhead cranes, and other equipment.
- Use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Accurately document work in the work-order system.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Work independently and as part of a team.
- Support a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Trade school or technical training in electromechanical systems or a related field preferred, but not required.
Experience
- 0–2 years of technical, mechanical, electrical, or hands-on experience.
- Recent graduates and individuals early in their technical careers are encouraged to apply.
Skills
- Basic to intermediate electrical and mechanical aptitude.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and understand technical information.
- Comfortable using computers, tablets, and basic software tools.
- Ability to learn new equipment, processes, and technical skills.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Work is performed in an industrial shop environment.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including hard hats and other safety equipment.
- Exposure to noise, machinery, and occasional hazardous materials.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Overtime and occasional travel may be required.
Compensation and Benefits
The estimated pay range for this position is $26 to $29 per hour. Starting pay is dependent on multiple factors, such as skills, experience and work location.
