Job Summary
The Senior IT Accountant bridges Finance and Information Technology by providing accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cost allocation, asset accounting, vendor oversight, and financial reporting support for technology operations in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company policies. The Senior IT Accountant works independently to analyze IT financial activity, maintain accurate records, strengthen controls, and provide actionable information to Finance and IT leadership.
Responsibilities
- IT Budgeting and Forecasting: Develops, monitors, and analyzes annual operating and capital budgets for the IT department; compares budgeted costs to actual results; investigates variances; and supports periodic forecasts.
- Expense Tracking and Cost Allocation: Records, reviews, and categorizes IT-related expenses, including cloud services, software licenses, hardware, telecommunications, maintenance, and professional services; allocates costs to the appropriate business units, departments, or projects.
- Vendor and Contract Management: Reviews IT vendor invoices and supporting documentation, monitors software and service renewals, coordinates accounts payable matters for technology suppliers, and evaluates charges for alignment with contract terms.
- Fixed Asset and Software Accounting: Tracks technology capital expenditures and operating expenditures, including hardware, servers, network infrastructure, purchased software, cloud arrangements, and internal-use software development costs; maintains accurate asset records and depreciation or amortization schedules.
- Accounting Operations: Prepares journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, prepaid expense schedules, and supporting analyses for IT-related accounts and month-end close activities.
- Financial Reporting and Analysis: Prepares periodic IT financial reports, budget-to-actual analyses, spending trends, forecasts, and management summaries to support strategic technology decisions.
- Controls and Compliance: Maintains documentation supporting IT financial transactions and accounting conclusions; follows company policies and internal controls; and supports internal and external audit requests.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborates with Finance, IT, Procurement, Legal, Tax, and business leaders to resolve accounting issues, improve data quality, and establish consistent processes for technology spending.
- Process Improvement: Identifies and implements improvements to IT accounting, reporting, cost allocation, asset tracking, and vendor-management processes, including opportunities for automation and standardization.
- Other Duties: Performs other related accounting and financial analysis responsibilities as assigned.

Experience & Academic Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Information Systems, or a related field required. Additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree, consistent with company requirements.
Experience: Five or more years of progressively responsible general, corporate, or cost accounting experience required, including experience supporting IT departments, technology costs, fixed assets, budgeting, forecasting, or vendor accounting. Experience in a consulting engineering firm or related professional services business preferred.
Certification/Registration: CPA, CMA, or other relevant professional certification preferred but not required.
Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, data analysis, and complex formulas. Experience with enterprise resource planning systems, financial reporting tools, and large data sets required. Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint, Power BI, or similar applications preferred.
Accounting Knowledge: Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including capitalization and expense considerations for fixed assets, internal-use software, cloud computing arrangements, prepaid expenses, accruals, and depreciation or amortization. Ability to research and document accounting conclusions.
Other Knowledge and Skills: Excellent analytical, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Ability to work independently, exercise professional judgment, protect confidential information, and collaborate effectively with Finance and IT stakeholders.

The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the California Pay Transparency Law. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience. Salary Range: $52,656-$87,906.
