About this role

SENIOR DEVELOPER – WEB & MOBILE APPLICATIONS

We Want To Change The World. We Believe It Starts With Education.
In India, 100 million children from low-income communities grow up without access to the 21st-century skills they need to thrive — from emotional intelligence and digital literacy to everyday money management. This gap leads to a lifetime of limited opportunity, intergenerational poverty, and rising mental health concerns.
What Are We Doing?
At The Apprentice Project (TAP), we're building India's boldest bet on education equity — an AI-powered learning buddy that helps thousands of government school students unlock 21st-century skills. We don't just teach coding or financial literacy — we spark self-confidence, creativity, and lifelong curiosity in children who've been told to "stay in their lane."
We're not looking for employees. We're looking for co-builders — people who want to create generational change, one student at a time.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for a senior engineer who can do both — write production-grade code and lead the team that ships it. You've built and operated web and mobile applications at scale, and you know what it takes to keep them stable, secure, and fast in the real world. You're comfortable making architecture decisions, running code reviews, managing a distributed team of 4–7 engineers, and still getting your hands dirty when it matters. You take end-to-end ownership seriously — from the first line of code to what happens in production at 2am. If you want to lead the engineering of a platform that reaches thousands of students every day — you'll thrive here.
About The Role
Location: Remote
Experience: 5+ years
Type: Full-time
What You'll Do
Application Development & Architecture
  • Own web and mobile application development from requirements to production.
  • Design scalable, secure, and maintainable application architecture.
  • Build applications using Flutter, React, JavaScript/TypeScript, and related technologies.
  • Develop and maintain backend services, APIs, databases, and third-party integrations.
  • Evaluate technical trade-offs and make sound architecture decisions.
  • Maintain technical documentation and reduce technical debt.
Team Leadership
  • Lead and mentor a remote team of 4–7 developers.
  • Convert product requirements into technical plans, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Assign work, conduct code reviews, and maintain engineering standards.
  • Coordinate with product, design, AI/ML, and data teams.
Delivery & Operations
  • Manage testing, CI/CD pipelines, cloud deployment, monitoring, and production support.
  • Oversee releases to web environments, the Apple App Store, and Google Play.
  • Ensure application performance, security, reliability, and scalability.
  • Diagnose production issues and implement permanent solutions.
Who You Are
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Proven experience building and operating production-grade web and mobile applications.
  • Strong experience with Flutter and Dart.
  • Strong experience with React and JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Solid knowledge of HTML, CSS, responsive design, and browser compatibility.
  • Experience developing REST or GraphQL APIs and backend services.
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
  • Knowledge of mobile application architecture — state management, notifications, authentication, and offline functionality.
  • Experience with Git, automated testing, CI/CD, cloud platforms, and container-based deployments.
  • Experience publishing and maintaining applications on the Apple App Store and Google Play.
  • Practical understanding of application security, monitoring, logging, and performance optimisation.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or managing an engineering team.
  • Strong written communication and remote collaboration skills.
Skills You Bring
  • Full-Stack Engineering: Deep hands-on experience across Flutter, React, JavaScript/TypeScript, and backend services — able to design and build production-grade applications end to end.
  • Architecture & Technical Decision-Making: Ability to design scalable, secure, maintainable systems and make sound trade-offs under real constraints.
  • Engineering Leadership: Experience leading a distributed team — assigning work, running reviews, maintaining standards, and growing engineers alongside shipping product.
  • Operational Ownership: Comfortable owning production — CI/CD, monitoring, release management, incident resolution, and everything in between.
Good to Have
  • Experience with Node.js or a comparable backend framework.
  • Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience with Docker and modern deployment practices.
  • Knowledge of analytics, payment gateways, messaging services, and other third-party integrations.
  • Experience working in an agile product-development environment.
What Success Looks Like
  • Agreed product milestones are delivered reliably and on time.
  • Applications are stable, secure, and performant in production.
  • Production defect rates are low and issues are resolved fast.
  • Engineering quality is consistent across the team.
  • Release cycles are predictable and well-managed.
  • Coordination with product, design, AI/ML, and data teams is smooth and effective.
Why Join Us?
Because the applications you build and lead are not internal tools — they are what students, teachers, and program teams interact with every day. Every architectural decision you make, every engineer you mentor, and every release you ship has a direct line to the learning experience of thousands of children in government schools across India. You'll work on a genuinely interesting stack — Flutter, React, AI integrations, real-time data, and WhatsApp-based learning — in a context where the stakes are real. If you want to lead engineering that matters — this is the place.
What You Can Expect?
  • Engineering leadership: Own the web and mobile product lifecycle end to end — architecture, team, delivery, and operations.
  • Interesting problems: Work at the intersection of mobile engineering, AI integration, and large-scale learning — on a platform that reaches thousands of daily active users.
  • Collaborative environment: Work closely with product, design, AI/ML, and data teams in a fast-moving, mission-driven organisation.
  • Supportive culture: Collaborative teams, open communication, and shared purpose.
  • Sector-aligned compensation: Competitive salary in line with experience and nonprofit standards.
