About this role

GLIFIC & PYTHON API DEVELOPER

We Want To Change The World. We Believe It Starts With Education.
In India, 100 million children from low-income communities grow up without access to the 21st-century skills they need to thrive — from emotional intelligence and digital literacy to everyday money management. This gap leads to a lifetime of limited opportunity, intergenerational poverty, and rising mental health concerns.
What Are We Doing?
At The Apprentice Project (TAP), we're building India's boldest bet on education equity — an AI-powered learning buddy that helps thousands of government school students unlock 21st-century skills. We don't just teach coding or financial literacy — we spark self-confidence, creativity, and lifelong curiosity in children who've been told to "stay in their lane."
We're not looking for employees. We're looking for co-builders — people who want to create generational change, one student at a time.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for a developer who can do both — design the conversational flow that a student experiences on WhatsApp and build the backend systems that make it work reliably at scale. You can independently trace a user interaction from a Glific flow through webhooks and APIs all the way to the database, identify where something is breaking, and implement a fix that holds. You write clean, maintainable code, document what you build, and take ownership of the systems you ship — including after they go live. If you're someone who finds satisfaction in making complex integrations work seamlessly for users who will never know they exist — you'll thrive here.
About The Role
Location: Remote / Hybrid
Experience: 1+ year
Type: Full-time
What You'll Do
Conversational Flow Design & Maintenance
  • Design, implement, test, and maintain Glific flows for student and teacher-facing experiences.
  • Integrate Glific with internal and third-party systems.
  • Translate business and program requirements into clear, reliable conversational flows.
  • Implement multilingual flows where required.
Backend Development & API Engineering
  • Develop REST APIs using FastAPI, Frappe, Django, Flask, or similar Python frameworks.
  • Implement webhooks, authentication, validation, error handling, and logging.
  • Write maintainable code, technical documentation, and automated tests.
Data & Integrations
  • Work with SQL databases — PostgreSQL, MariaDB — and manage data exchange between systems.
  • Ensure reliable data flow across Glific, backend APIs, and integrated platforms.
Reliability & Operations
  • Diagnose issues across flows, APIs, background jobs, and integrations.
  • Monitor production systems and resolve performance or reliability problems.
  • Collaborate with product, operations, and program teams to convert requirements into working solutions.
Who You Are
  • 1+ year of practical experience creating and managing Glific flows.
  • Strong Python programming skills.
  • Experience developing and consuming REST APIs.
  • Experience with FastAPI, Frappe, or another Python web framework.
  • Understanding of webhooks, JSON, HTTP, OAuth, API tokens, and authentication.
  • Working knowledge of SQL databases — PostgreSQL or MariaDB.
  • Experience with Git and structured debugging.
  • Ability to translate business processes into clear conversational flows and backend logic.
Skills You Bring
  • Glific & Conversational Design: Practical ability to design, build, and maintain Glific flows — translating program needs into reliable user-facing experiences.
  • Python & API Development: Strong backend engineering skills across Python frameworks — FastAPI, Frappe, Django, or Flask — with solid REST API experience.
  • Systems Thinking: Ability to trace a user interaction end-to-end across flows, webhooks, APIs, and databases — and identify where things break.
  • Reliability & Ownership: Comfortable owning production systems — monitoring, diagnosing, and resolving issues without being told twice.
Good to Have
  • Experience with WhatsApp-based applications or chatbot platforms.
  • Familiarity with Frappe Framework, ERPNext, or Glific APIs.
  • Experience with Docker, Redis, background workers, and cloud deployment.
  • Experience implementing multilingual conversational flows.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, and data privacy practices.
What Success Looks Like
  • Glific flows are well-designed, reliable, and consistently delivering the intended student and teacher experience.
  • Backend APIs and integrations are stable, well-documented, and maintainable by the broader team.
  • Issues across flows, APIs, and integrations are diagnosed and resolved quickly.
  • Production systems are monitored proactively — problems are caught before they affect users.
  • Requirements from product, operations, and program teams are translated into working solutions without ambiguity.
Why Join Us?
Because at TAP, the systems you build are not internal tools — they are the product. Every Glific flow you design and every API you build is part of the learning experience that thousands of students interact with every day on WhatsApp. You'll work on a genuinely interesting technical stack — conversational platforms, backend integrations, AI pipelines, and real-time data systems — in a context where the stakes are real and the impact is visible. If you want your engineering work to matter — this is the place.
What You Can Expect?
  • Real ownership: Build and maintain systems that directly power TAP's student-facing learning experience.
  • Interesting problems: Work at the intersection of conversational design, backend engineering, and AI integration — on a platform serving thousands of daily active users.
  • Collaborative environment: Work closely with product, operations, curriculum, and program teams — your work connects directly to what students experience.
  • Supportive culture: Collaborative teams, open communication, and shared purpose.
  • Sector-aligned compensation: Competitive salary in line with experience and nonprofit standards.
