About this role
The Resident - Wards is responsible for providing continuous medical care to admitted patients by ensuring timely assessment, monitoring, treatment implementation, and coordination with consultants and multidisciplinary teams. The incumbent plays a key role in maintaining patient safety, clinical documentation, and continuity of care across inpatient services.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
- Assess and examine admitted patients upon admission and during hospitalization.
- Conduct daily patient reviews and monitor clinical progress.
- Implement treatment plans as prescribed by consultants.
- Attend consultant rounds and document clinical findings and treatment plans.
- Review laboratory and diagnostic reports and escalate critical findings promptly.
- Manage admissions, referrals, transfers, and discharge processes.
- Identify deterioration in patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions.
- Ensure continuity of patient care during shift handovers.
Clinical Procedures
- IV Cannulation.
- Venous and Arterial Blood Sampling.
- ECG Recording.
- Urinary Catheterization.
- Nasogastric Tube Insertion.
- Wound Dressing and Minor Procedures.
- Suturing of Minor Wounds.
- Assist consultants during bedside procedures.
Emergency Care Responsibilities
- Attend ward emergencies and provide immediate stabilization.
- Participate in Code Blue and resuscitation activities.
- Provide Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) support as required.
- Coordinate transfer of critically ill patients to ICU, HDU, OT, or Emergency Department.
Documentation & Record Management
- Maintain accurate and timely medical records.
- Prepare admission notes, progress notes, referral notes, discharge summaries, and death summaries.
- Ensure compliance with medico-legal documentation requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
Quality & Patient Safety
- Adhere to NABH standards, infection control guidelines, and hospital policies.
- Ensure compliance with patient safety goals and clinical protocols.
- Report adverse events, medication errors, and safety incidents promptly.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits.
Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate with consultants, nursing staff, physiotherapists, pharmacists, dieticians, and allied healthcare professionals.
- Participate in multidisciplinary patient care discussions.
- Communicate effectively with patients and their families regarding treatment updates as directed by consultants.
Academic Responsibilities
- Participate in CMEs, case discussions, clinical meetings, and training programs.
- Stay updated with current clinical guidelines and medical practices.
- Participate in departmental academic activities and learning initiatives.
