About this role

Shape the Future of Cancer Care at Luminate Medical

At Luminate, our mission is to make cancer care more human.

We have designed and developed multiple devices across the Lily, Lotus and Lilac product ranges and are showing that these can have real world impact. Lily and Lilac are revolutionary wearable devices designed to address hair loss and peripheral neuropathy respectively – two of the most common and difficult side effects of cancer treatment. Lotus, our latest solution, is a next-generation system of services and devices that is designed to make at-home cancer care more accessible and efficient for both patients and clinics. The challenge now is to take the learnings from our patients and develop the next generation of devices so that we can have an impact at scale.

We’re looking for an R&D Engineer to be a key contributor in supporting our current devices and kickstarting our next generation of devices - gathering feedback from users, patients and internal stakeholders to develop devices that can bring Luminate to the next level. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a multi-award-winning team and play a decisive part in the development and production of life changing devices. Above all, you will need to enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, be passionate about working with people, and thrive in taking responsibility for delivering projects on-time to make a real-world patient impact.

Working at Luminate Medical

  • Carrying out verification and validation activities to support submissions.
  • Implementing design changes to improve devices and patient outcomes.
  • Ability to translate customer, clinical, or user feedback into innovative product concepts and engineering solutions.

Become a technical contributor within the R&D group to drive patient-focused cancer care products from idea to manufacture, including:

  • Contributing to technical reviews, interpreting experimental data, and brainstorming sessions.
  • Owning tasks and deliverables with a structured, methodical approach to product development.
  • Evaluating and sourcing materials, components, and suppliers to ensure optimal design and manufacturability.
  • Communicating design decisions effectively, interpreting research literature and test results to refine and improve designs.
  • Creating and maintaining design documentation, including drawings, specifications, technical reports and requirements documentation.
  • Collaborating with design assurance to conduct risk assessments through FMEAs.
  • Working with manufacturing engineers to ensure DFA throughout design.

Take responsibility for the delivery of project goals in a timely fashion by:

  • Taking personal responsibility for critical and complex technical tasks.
  • Working closely with Senior Engineers, Project Manager, RA/QA and Clinical teams to maintain agreed timelines and ensure quality standards are maintained.
