Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a fast growing function within Tata Technologies Limited that is assembled to work on exciting projects globally for multiple customers. It comprises highly specialized engineers across Automotive, Aerospace and Industrial Heavy Machinery.
Scope of Role
The PT Integration is responsible for the end-to-end engineering ownership of allocated Powertrain commodities during vehicle launch and industrialization, ensuring successful delivery into production. The role will lead physical vehicle builds, support manufacturing plants, drive issue resolution, and ensure validation and launch readiness through the various builds. The engineer rrequiring regular presence at JLR manufacturing facilities, engineering centres, suppliers, and test locations to support vehicle builds and physical test activities.
Area of Responsibility
· Engineering ownership of allocated Powertrain systems during launch phases.
· Lead and support physical vehicle builds at our client manufacturing plants and prototype build facilities.
· Coordinate and execute powertrain-related launch activities across prototype, pilot, pre-production, and production builds.
· Drive resolution of engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supplier-related concerns to closure.
· Support validation activities, including DV, PV, sign-off, durability, and vehicle test programmes.
· Ensure correct parts availability, build maturity, and engineering status for all build events.
· Manage programme risks, concerns, and engineering changes throughout launch.
· Support root cause investigation and implementation of corrective actions for build and test issues.
· Coordinate cross-functional teams to achieve launch gateways and programme milestones.
· Provide on-site engineering support during vehicle builds and test activities.
· Track and report launch status, concerns, risks, and mitigation plans to programme leadership.
· Ensure successful delivery of components meeting cost, quality, timing, and performance targets.
· Support supplier visits and plant-based issue resolution activities as required.
· Travel regularly to our client facilities, proving grounds, suppliers, and test locations across the UK.
Knowledge / Experience
· Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Electrical, Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent experience.
· Experience delivering Powertrain, Electric Drive Unit (EDU), Battery, Thermal Management, or Propulsion System components within automotive programmes.
· Proven experience supporting vehicle launch, industrialisation, and manufacturing activities.
· Experience leading physical vehicle builds and launch support activities in an OEM or Tier-1 environment.
· Strong project management and issue-resolution capability.
· Knowledge of automotive product development, validation, and launch processes.
· Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
· Experience with APQP, PPAP, DFMEA/PFMEA, 8D, and structured problem-solving methodologies.
· Ability to work effectively in manufacturing plant environments.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Word..
Preferred
· Experience supporting BEV and Hybrid vehicle launches.
· Knowledge of our client systems, release processes, and change management tools.
· Understanding of vehicle integration and manufacturing build processes.
· Familiarity with data acquisition, test reporting, and launch metrics.
· CAD literacy and ability to interrogate engineering models and drawings.
