As the provincial and organizational landscape for Nurse Practitioner practice continues to evolve, you will provide strategic leadership, mentorship, and advocacy to support high-quality, patient- and family-centred care while influencing practice, policy, and professional development across the organization.Reporting to the Vice President Chief of People, Nursing and Health Professions Officer, the NP Lead:

  • Provides expert clinical and professional leadership to Nurse Practitioners across Providence Health Care (PHC) programs
  • Is accountable for advancing quality practice environments, championing clinical excellence and fostering interprofessional collaboration within Nurse Practitioner practice throughout the organization
  • Supports the integration and development of NP practice within PHC to facilitate the establishment of the formal Nurse Practitioner framework within the Office of Professional Practice
  • Guides strategic direction, mentorship, assists in clinical mentorship and evaluation, leads policy development within PHC and represents PHC within Regional and Provincial policy groups
  • Is responsible for quality assurance initiatives and seamless integration of comprehensive NP practice throughout the organization

What You Bring

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Current registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
  • Minimum of 5 years of Nurse Practitioner experience, including progressive leadership, education or program development experience in complex health systems
  • Active PHC medical staff privileges or eligibility to obtain privileges

Your Day to Day:Strategic and Operational Leadership

  • Leads the implementation and sustainability of NP policies, frameworks, and professional standards across PHC, aligning with British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) and provincial directions.
  • Coordinates the collection and reporting of NP human resources and performance metrics to support workforce planning and accountability and notifies the Department Head of any emerging issues.
  • Develops and maintains the NP rotation schedules.
  • Manages and resolves conflicts, facilitating constructive dialogue to reach resolution. Refers formal performance management issues to the Department Head.
  • Provides strategic input into legislative, regulatory, and practice changes, assessing impact on clinical environments and patient care outcomes.

Practice Support and Quality

  • Provides first-line support for NP practice issues, fostering professional autonomy while guiding integration within team-based care.
  • Coordinates NP orientation, residency, mentorship, onboarding and NP check in reviews in collaboration with operational, medical leaders, and the NP Department Head.
  • Promotes clinical practice consistency and mentorship opportunities, ensuring clarity in scope, accountability, and interprofessional collaboration.
  • Leads NP involvement in research, education, and quality improvement initiatives aligned with the four BCCNM domains of practice.

System and Cultural Integration

  • Liaises between external organizations including, VCH, BCCNM, Nurses and Nurse Practitioners of British Columbia (NNPBC), and academic institutions.
  • Develops structures and processes to strengthen NP leadership capacity and system-level advocacy within PHC.
  • Participates in medical staff initiatives related to quality assurance, patient safety, credentialing, and regulatory compliance.

Change Management and Innovation

  • Champions innovation and practice transformation within NP care delivery, contributing to system-wide change initiatives.
  • Leads projects and initiatives supporting clinical redesign, evidence-based care models, and electronic health record adoption.
  • Supports culturally safe, trauma-informed, and equity-oriented approaches in NP practice.

Clinical Practice

  • Must maintain clinical practice as a Nurse Practitioner as outlined by the BCCNM, within a designated minimum amount of clinical practice.
  • Holds and maintains active or provisional medical staff privileges in accordance with PHC bylaws.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
