Overview

The Marketing Cloud & Data Cloud Specialist is a technical platform owner responsible for the administration, configuration, and optimization of Salesforce Marketing Cloud and Salesforce Data Cloud at AACR. This role sits within the Enterprise Platform Services & Data Management team and operates at the intersection of IT and Marketing. The ideal candidate is technically fluent in the Salesforce ecosystem, comfortable working with obscure business requirements, and capable of partnering cross-functionally without requiring heavy hand-holding.

Responsibilities

Marketing Cloud Administration & Operations

  • Serve as the primary platform administrator for Salesforce Marketing Cloud, including user/contact management, business unit configuration, security settings, and release management.
  • Configure and maintain Email Studio, Journey Builder, Automation Studio, Content Builder, Contact Builder, and Mobile Studio.
  • Track email performance metrics and A/B testing outcomes, and ensure campaign and automation data flows into Data Cloud for downstream reporting in Power BI.
  • Build and manage data extensions, subscriber models, and send classifications, including routine list hygiene and subscriber data-quality maintenance.
  • Own platform health, deliverability metrics, and compliance with GDPR/CAN-SPAM and email best practices.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve platform issues, integration failures, and campaign execution errors.
  • Build and maintain CloudPages and Code Resources supporting subscription management, preference centers, re-opt-in flows, and data-capture forms.

Data Cloud Administration & Activation

  • Administer Salesforce Data Cloud, including data stream configuration, identity resolution rules, and unified profile management.
  • Build and maintain audience segments for use in Marketing Cloud journeys and other activation channels.
  • Define and maintain calculated insights, data model extensions, and activation targets.
  • Partner with the data management team to ensure clean, governed data flows between Salesforce NPC, Snowflake, and Data Cloud.
  • Lead efforts to utilize Salesforce Agentforce to refine and automate segment building.

Integration & Platform Connectivity

  • Coordinate with the MuleSoft integration layer on data flows into and out of Marketing Cloud.
  • Ensure data integrity and field-level mapping accuracy across integrated systems.
  • Participate in platform change management and regression testing for Salesforce releases.

Stakeholder Partnership

  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for Marketing and Creative services teams requesting platform support.
  • Translate campaign and engagement requirements into platform configurations and journey designs.
  • Partner with other AACR departments to understand their email objectives and proactively identify underlying data needs for email campaigns.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing team on the email send calendar, providing platform data on sends, engagement, and frequency to help manage audience overlap and fatigue.
  • Provide platform training, documentation, and guidance to marketing power users.
  • Participate in backlog grooming with the NPC team to prioritize platform requests.
  • Leverage AI capabilities across the platform stack, including Agentforce, Einstein features and AI-assisted development tools to accelerate segment building, campaign optimization, and day-to-day platform work.

Qualifications

Required

  • 3+ years of hands-on Salesforce Marketing Cloud administration and configuration experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with Journey Builder, Automation Studio, Email Studio, and Contact Builder.
  • Working knowledge of data extensions, AMPscript, and SQL for audience queries.
  • Experience integrating Marketing Cloud with Salesforce CRM (NPSP, NPC, or Sales/Service Cloud).
  • Strong data literacy, comfortable working with structured data, segmentation logic, and campaign analytics.
  • Salesforce Marketing Cloud Email Specialist certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months).

Preferred

  • Experience with Salesforce Data Cloud, including data streams, identity resolution rules, calculated insights, and segment activation; Data Cloud Consultant certification or accreditation preferred, or ability to obtain within 12 months.
  • Familiarity with Snowflake or other cloud data warehouse concepts.
  • Experience in a nonprofit, membership association, or higher education environment.
  • Salesforce Marketing Cloud Administrator or Consultant certification.
  • Basic HTML/CSS for responsive email template development.
  • Awareness of Salesforce’s Marketing Cloud Next roadmap and the direction of Marketing Cloud and Data Cloud convergence toward the Agentforce Marketing platform.

Core Competencies

  • Strong cross-functional communication; able to work between IT and non-technical marketing stakeholders without losing technical rigor.
