Context
About the Role
As the Project Management Consultancy (PMC) for the major Cairo Metro Line 1 Modernization Project, we are seeking a highly experienced MEP Specialist with strong, proven expertise in Station and Tunnel Electrical Systems.
In this key technical role representing the Engineer/Consultant, you will act as the principal electrical authority for all MEP packages across stations, depots, and tunnels. You will ensure that low-voltage power distribution, lighting, Building Management Systems (BMS), escalators/lifts, fire safety, and tunnel/station ventilation systems are fully integrated, safe, and executed in accordance with international metro standards.
Missions/Main Duties
- Electrical MEP Design Review & Approval: Lead the engineering review and technical approval of contractor submittals, single-line diagrams, short-circuit calculations, cable sizing, and layout drawings for all station and tunnel low-voltage networks.
- Building Management Systems (BMS) & Automation: Oversee the integration and commissioning of BMS/BAS, environmental monitoring systems, and local control panels interfacing with central control centers.
- Lighting & Auxiliary Power Management: Direct design and site installation for normal, essential, and emergency station/tunnel lighting networks, UPS systems, grounding/earthing, and lightning protection.
- Fire Detection & Suppression Oversight: Act as the technical lead for Fire Alarm Systems, Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus (VESDA), and automated fire suppression control systems in line with NFPA 130 standards.
- Ventilation & Mechanical Power Integration: Oversee the electrical distribution, motor control centers (MCC), variable speed drives (VSD), and automated control sequences for Tunnel Ventilation Systems (TVS) and Station Ventilation Systems (SVS).
- Vertical Transportation & Hydraulic Systems: Direct technical verification, power distribution, and commissioning for Escalators, Lifts, Drainage/Sump Pumps, and water treatment systems across the line.
- Testing, Commissioning & QA/QC: Lead Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) for low-voltage switchboards, MCCs, BMS controllers, and emergency power systems.
- Interface & Contract Management: Coordinate technical interfaces between MEP Electrical packages and adjacent disciplines (Traction Power, SCADA, Civil Works, Signaling) while managing contractor queries under FIDIC conditions.
Profile/Skills
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s degree or Chartered Electrical Engineer status preferred).
- Experience: Minimum +10 years of progressive engineering experience, with a primary focus on Electrical MEP / Building Services within major metro, tunnel, or underground rail projects.
- Consultancy/PMC Background: Proven track record working within an international PMC or Engineering Consultancy supervising electrical MEP sub-consultants and contractors.
- Standards & Codes: Deep technical knowledge of IEC, EN, NFPA 130 (Standard for Fixed Guideway Transit and Passenger Rail Systems), local Egyptian electrical codes, and FIDIC contracts.

- Core Electrical MEP Mastery:
- Low Voltage Systems (LVS): Sub-distribution boards, Motor Control Centers (MCC), UPS, Diesel Generators, Cabling systems.
- Automation & Controls: BMS, SCADA integration, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and system interfaces.
- Lighting & Earthing: Emergency lighting design, battery backed systems, earthing, bonding, and surge protection.
- Mechanical Systems Interface: Deep working knowledge of electrical powering and automation for Tunnel Ventilation (TVS), Station Ventilation (SVS), Fire Suppression, Drainage Pumps, and Vertical Transportation (Escalators/Lifts).
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in English (written and spoken) is essential for technical reporting and client communications.
- Leadership: Strong analytical, communication, and decision-making capabilities within multi-cultural engineering teams.
