About this role

Looking for Philippines-based candidates

Job Role: Interior Design & Space Planner

Compensation range: $1,800 AUD - $2,000 AUD / Monthly

Engagement type: Independent Contractor Agreement

Work Schedule: This role is expected to align with the AU business hours (approx. 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday) for collaboration, but as a contractor, you’ll have flexibility in how you manage your time.

Who We Are: At Hunt St, we help Australian companies hire top remote talent in the Philippines. For this role, you will be engaged directly by the client as an independent contractor. We are not an outsourcing agency. All of our roles are 100% remote so you'll be able to work from home.

Who The Client Is: The client is an established, proudly Australian-owned business that has spent years supplying furniture, resources, and equipment to early learning centres across the country. They believe every early learning environment deserves thoughtful, functional design that feels warm and welcoming;  spaces where children can genuinely thrive. Beyond supplying products, they offer an end-to-end design service for new and existing centres, working closely with owners, directors, and educators to bring their vision to life. They are a collaborative, passionate team with deep roots in the early childhood sector and a genuine commitment to quality in everything they do.

Role Overview: We are seeking a creative and technically capable Interior Designer and Space Planner to support the design of early learning environments across Australia. This is a hands-on role split approximately 50/50 between full design and visualisation work and space planning. You will translate client briefs and floor plans into functional, visually compelling room layouts, 3D renders and design concepts that support both the sales process and the client experience.

A key focus of this role is developing a strong understanding of how childcare and early learning centres in Australia are set up, including room types, age-based zones, pedagogy-led design approaches, and the practical needs of educators and children. The ideal candidate is forward-thinking, embraces AI and emerging design tools, and is committed to continuously lifting the quality of design outputs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop functional space plans and room layouts for childcare, early learning and education projects
  • Translate client briefs, floor plans and product selections into practical and visually appealing design solutions
  • Plan room layouts with strong consideration for circulation, supervision, access, zoning, storage, age-appropriate learning areas and efficient use of space
  • Create concept designs, furniture layouts, 3D models, photorealistic renders and walkthroughs to support project presentations and sales opportunities
  • Apply the client's product range into room layouts in a way that is practical, commercially effective and aligned with early learning environments
  • Learn and apply the client's approach to Australian childcare room setup including typical room types, age groups, educator needs and centre functionality
  • Research and develop an understanding of key teaching pedagogies used in Australia including play-based learning, Montessori, Reggio Emilia-inspired practice, nature-based learning and inclusive education, and apply this knowledge to space planning and design recommendations
  • Design spaces that support different ways children learn, play, explore, rest, collaborate and develop independence
  • Support sales representatives with clear and accurate design outputs
  • Collaborate with internal teams to refine layouts, improve design quality and create consistent outcomes across projects
  • Manage multiple design tasks and deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and presentation quality
  • Leverage AI and emerging design tools to improve speed, consistency and quality of outputs

  • 3 to 5 years or more of experience in interior design, architectural design, fit-out design or space planning
  • Strong space planning capability with the ability to turn floor plans and briefs into practical, functional layouts
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp and D5 Render or similar design and rendering software
  • Strong capability in 3D modelling, rendering, visualisation and presentation of design concepts
  • Good understanding of furniture layouts, room flow, materials, joinery, storage and practical design implementation
  • Ability to balance design quality with functionality, product availability, budget and project delivery requirements
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate layouts and technical documentation
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams including project managers, sales, or suppliers
  • Confident and curious in the use of AI tools to support design research, concept development and workflow efficiency
  • Willingness to learn how Australian childcare and early learning centres operate

Desirable

  • Background or interest in early childhood, education or child-centred design
  • Familiarity with early learning pedagogies such as Montessori, Reggio Emilia or play-based learning
  • Experience in commercial fit-out or furniture-driven space planning

Work Arrangement & Expectations:

This is a remote role that will be set up as an independent contractor engagement.
