About this role

SLCS is currently seeking a full-time Housing Systems Navigator for Project Home on a 12-month contract.  This program supports participants who are experiencing homelessness, transitioning to housing and those anchored in their housing in establishing a sense of belonging in their community through the provision of assertive and intensive Housing First case management.   As a member of this interdisciplinary team, you will provide team members and program participants with assistance in navigating complex systems.  This role is responsible for advocating on behalf of participants, liaising with community services (i.e. Health, Mental Health, Addictions supports, Developmental Supports, Disability Supports, Long-term care, etc.) to coordinate care for participants.  This role is responsible for assessing suitability to various services, completing referrals/application forms, community liaising and providing education to the Project Home team regarding systems navigation.


The position supports participants from diverse populations who have faced systemic barriers, trauma and discrimination. The role requires advocacy, problem solving, communication, networking and skills in creative thinking.  Training in Trauma Informed Care, Harm Reduction, Crisis Prevention, Suicide Intervention, Restorative Practices and Truth and Reconciliation would be beneficial in assisting the vulnerable population Project Home supports.

Knowledge in regards to navigating systems such as Social Assistance, Health Care (including referrals), Residential Tenancy Act, Canadian Ontario Housing Benefit (COHB), social services in London, housing services, obtaining identification and tax services is an asset in this role.  This role includes networking and rapport building with other agencies and community services across London and region and helping to arrange presentations from those agencies for the Project Home team.


You will be responsible for the safety and security of participants, co-workers and community members during your employment. You will work collaboratively with other team members and community partners to complete administrative functions for the program.  This position is community-based and you will be expected to regularly travel within the London community.


Required Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with a diverse population, including individuals affected by mental health, justice system involvement, addictions and homelessness
  • Knowledge of local and provincial systems and available resources for participants
  • Intermediate / Standard First Aid + CPR – Level C Certificate
  • Valid G Class Driver’s License and access to reliable vehicle
  • Candidates who are proficient in both official languages of Canada will be considered an asset
