About this role

About CORTO

We are CORTO, a cutting-edge software company dedicated to revolutionising the legal industry. Our mission is to empower legal practitioners with AI-driven solutions that streamline their workflow, boost productivity, and provide more efficient client service.

Our team of AI experts and engineers collaborate to develop intelligent software tailored to the unique needs of lawyers, paralegals, and legal assistants. Our innovative AI solutions automate routine tasks, simplify document management, and enhance decision-making, allowing legal professionals to focus on what they do best—providing expert legal counsel.

We’re rapidly scaling from 80 to 250+ employees, with a highly technical workforce where around 75% of the team are developers and engineers. Working alongside our Sydney-based team of passionate high achievers, you’ll join a fast-growing technology business where things rarely stay the same for long - and if you’re smart, caring, and ambitious, you’ll be in great company.

Meet the CORTO Accounting team

As a Front-End Engineer, you'll build the interfaces legal professionals use to run the financial side of their firm, using React, Next.js, Electron, and TypeScript. You’ll work in a modern, scalable mono-repo alongside designers, product managers, and back-end engineers, shipping features that are fast, accurate, and genuinely nice to use.

This role suits someone who cares about polished user experience, writes clean and maintainable code, and wants a say in how the product gets built - not just a ticket queue.

What you’ll do

As a Front-End Developer, you will help build and enhance our AI-driven legal tech products by developing high-quality, user-focused interfaces using React, Next.js, Electron, and TypeScript. You’ll work within a modern, scalable mono-repo and collaborate closely with designers, product managers, and back-end engineers to deliver reliable and performant applications.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building polished user experiences, writing clean and maintainable code, and contributing to a collaborative engineering culture.

To make this happen you will:

  • Build and maintain frontend applications using React, Next.js, Electron, Tailwind and TypeScript.
  • Rebuild core accounting features - timesheets, time and fees, payment workflows - with modern UX and cleaner architecture.
  • Turn designs into responsive, accessible, and performant interfaces alongside our UX/UI designers
  • Integrate with APIs and work with back-end engineers to ensure smooth data flow
  • Contribute to our shared component library and mono-repo architecture
  • Participate in code reviews and follow front-end best practices
  • Write unit and integration tests where appropriate
  • Debug and resolve front-end issues in a timely manner
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and version control workflows (Bitbucket)
  • Bring improvements to the stack and the way we build - we want your opinion, not just your output

What you’ll bring:

  • 3 - 5 years of professional front-end development experience
  • Strong experience with React and TypeScript
  • Experience with Next.js or similar React frameworks
  • Solid understanding of HTML, CSS, and modern JavaScript
  • Experience consuming REST or GraphQL APIs
  • Experience with Git-based workflows
  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Even better if you have;

  • Experience working in a mono-repo environment
  • Familiarity with Electron
  • Exposure to AWS-hosted applications
  • Experience with modern state/data management tools (e.g., React Query/TanStack Query, TRPC, Zustand, Jotai, Redux Toolkit)
  • Experience with modern design frameworks/component libraries (ShadCN, BaseUI, Radix)

You are the type of person who

  • Brings fresh ideas and challenges the status quo.
  • Anticipates future needs and builds with extensibility in mind
  • Collaborate openly and positively.
  • Seeks deeper understanding and better solutions.

CORTO is an inclusive, people-first company committed to breaking down institutional barriers that keep people from reaching their potential. If you meet some, but not all the requirements above, we encourage you to still submit your application.
