Job Description

At TAL, our purpose is to help Australians live a life filled with choices, options and freedoms for longer. As a Corporate Counsel, you’ll play an important role in supporting that mission by providing trusted legal guidance that helps our business make informed decisions, manage risk and deliver positive outcomes for customers. Working closely with stakeholders across TAL, you’ll combine your legal expertise with a deep understanding of our business to navigate complex challenges and contribute to meaningful work that makes a difference. This is an opportunity to influence outcomes, build strong partnerships and create lasting impact.

In This Role You Will:

  • Manage litigated matters in partnership with external legal counsel
  • Manage disputes lodged with the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) and other external complaints bodies
  • Provide legal advice and support to the Claims and Underwriting teams, as well as other business areas as required
  • Deliver training and legal guidance to Claims and Underwriting stakeholders
  • Provide legal advice and support to Risk and Compliance on matters relating to the Life Insurance Code of Practice
  • Support the Internal Dispute Resolution team with legal advice and guidance
  • Partner with other Legal teams to review product documentation and a range of commercial agreements and documents

Qualifications

  • Admission to practise law in Australia with at least 3 years' post qualification experience
  • Experience working within financial services or another regulated industry
  • Knowledge of insurance law and its practical application in a business environment
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Law
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with a collaborative approach to working with others
  • Well-developed organisation, time management and prioritisation skills, with a proactive mindset
