About the job:

Kent is looking for an Instrumentation Commissioning Technician to support our team at the Saint John LNG (SJLNG) Project.

 

 

Skills and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

  • Reports to the Instrumentation Discipline Lead for planning and execution management support.
  • Execute instrumentation commissioning tasks as directed.
  • Communicates with the Instrumentation Discipline Lead for technical support.
  • Create RFI content as the first line of technical field questions.
  • Accept and/or sign onto permits, JSA, FLRA's, and toolbox talks in the capacity of front-line user.
  • Perform field verification of punch list completion and update the systems completion database as required.
  • Complete and report daily progress on commissioning B check sheets accurately and legibly.
  • Support instrumentation field commissioning activities, including loop checks, instrument calibration verification, functional testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Perform instrument inspections, verification, and commissioning of field devices including pressure, temperature, flow, and level instruments.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge in the use of instrumentation test equipment such as process calibrators, HART communicators, multifunction calibrators, pressure pumps, and loop simulators.
  • Review and redline instrumentation documentation including P&IDs, loop drawings, hook-up drawings, instrument data sheets, wiring diagrams, and cause & effect matrices.
  • Support DCS, PLC, SIS, and ESD loop checks, logic testing, and field device integration.
  • Assist with valve stroke testing, control valve calibration, positioner setup, and functional testing of instrumentation systems.
  • Coordinate with commissioning vendors for instrumentation systems as required.
  • Ensure compliance with isolation requirements, safe work practices, and project permitting processes throughout commissioning activities.
  • Support integrated system testing and start-up activities with Operations, Electrical, Mechanical, and Process disciplines.

 

 

In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.

 

 

Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:

Knowledge/Qualification/Training/Certification:

  • Technician certified, preferably with a college technical certificate in Instrumentation, Instrumentation & Control, or a related discipline, with 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proven experience in frontline commissioning, start-up, and functional testing of instrumentation and control systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of instrumentation calibration techniques and commissioning procedures.
  • Hands-on experience commissioning field instrumentation, control valves, analyzers, transmitters, switches, and associated control systems.
  • Experience performing loop checks, instrument calibration verification, cause & effect testing, and commissioning of PLC, DCS, SIS, and ESD systems.
  • Demonstrated understanding of instrumentation standards, hazardous area requirements, and project commissioning processes.
  • Demonstrated understanding of isolation procedures and compliance with project permitting processes (CSU, Area Prime, JSA, FLRA, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of HART communication, smart instrumentation, and digital field devices.

 

 

Communication:

  • Excellent command of the English language in both oral and written communication.

  • Strong technical skills and discipline focus in instrumentation commissioning.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary commissioning teams in a fast-paced project environment.
