Business Applications Analyst

Ritchies is one of New Zealand's largest bus and coach operators, moving people right across the country every day with a team of around 3,000 nationwide. Behind that operation sits a growing set of business-critical systems — and we're investing in both the technology and the people to run them well.

We're building an internal team to own these systems and get the best out of them, and we have two Business Applications Analyst roles at the heart of it. Reporting to the Director of Technology, you'll be part of a small, capable technology team with plenty of room to make the role your own.

The opportunity

This is a genuinely broad role for someone who enjoys understanding how systems work and making them work better. You'll be the person the business relies on to keep our core applications healthy, current and delivering value — starting with our HASTUS workforce-scheduling and operations platform and extending across a growing estate of operational and digital systems as we build them out.

What you'll be doing

• Supporting and administering our core business applications, resolving the issues that need real business context rather than a generic helpdesk fix
• Testing and deploying vendor releases, keeping our systems current, supported and reliable
• Managing configuration changes and enhancements, and weighing their impact across connected systems before they go live
• Monitoring key interfaces so data flows correctly between systems and nothing fails quietly
• Working with software vendors to resolve cases and get full value from our support agreements
• Building and maintaining the reporting the business runs on
• Training and supporting users so they get the most from the tools
• Helping shape and support new systems as our technology estate grows

What you'll bring

You might currently be in application support, a business or systems analyst role, or systems administration. What matters most is that you enjoy understanding how systems work, making them better, and working with the people who rely on them.

• Experience supporting business applications — resolving issues, managing configuration, testing changes and helping users get the most from the tools
• A methodical, analytical approach to investigating problems across systems, data and processes
• The ability to understand a business need and translate it into a practical system change, weighing the impact on connected systems
• Confidence working with data and reporting (SQL or a tool like Power BI is a real plus)
• Experience working with software vendors to get issues resolved and value delivered
• Strong communication skills — you can explain technical things clearly to non-technical people, and you're comfortable training others
• The ability to juggle priorities and stay level-headed in a busy operational environment
• A genuine appetite for learning new systems and growing with the role

Nice to have (and we'll help you build it): experience with HASTUS or another enterprise scheduling / workforce-management system, exposure to integrations or APIs, or a background in transport, logistics or another operational industry.
