The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) at The Commons on St. Anthony oversees the day-to-day functions of the nursing department, in accordance with current rules, regulations and guidelines under the guidance of the Director of Nursing and facility Administrator.
The ADON ensures that residents receive the highest degree of quality care at all times.
Pay Range: $110,000 - $115,000 Annually
Responsibilities
Job Duties Specific to This Position:
- Collaborates with the Director to coordinate nursing practices and promote the delivery of safe, effective, and efficient resident care.
- Leads resident care planning, ensuring care plans are developed, communicated, updated, and followed, while supporting accurate and complete clinical documentation.
- Assesses nursing staffing needs and oversees scheduling to ensure appropriate staffing levels and quality resident care while working within budgetary guidelines.
- Provides daily clinical leadership through rounds on all floors, supporting Clinical Practice Managers, delegating responsibilities, and providing direct nursing care when needed.
- Serves as an active member of the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT), collaborating with residents, families, physicians, medical providers, and other team members to support optimal care.
- Oversees medication management and delivery systems and works with the Administrator, nursing team, and medical providers to maintain and improve clinical processes and standards of practice.
- Promotes compliance with DOH, CMS, and other applicable regulations, policies, and standards, and communicates regulatory updates and expectations to staff.
- Coordinates PRI and MDS assessments and supports timely, accurate completion of required documentation, reports, assessments, and evaluations.
- Actively participates in the facility’s Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program, monitors quality measures and best practices, and serves as a member of the QAPI Committee.
- Oversees incident reporting, investigation, tracking, regulatory reporting, adverse outcome reporting, complaint resolution, and related follow-up and corrective action.
- Works with the Director to prepare for and support mock surveys, DOH surveys, and third-party audits, including plans of correction and educational initiatives when needed.
- Promotes a safe, clean, and sanitary environment and ensures staff receive appropriate education and follow established practices related to safety, infection control, isolation, aseptic technique, and equipment use.
- Supports staff development and professional growth through ongoing education, in-services, professional associations, and educational conferences, while maintaining current knowledge of nursing best practices.
- Monitors nursing department budgets and resources, including staffing and agency utilization, participates in budget development, and supports efficient operations. In the absence of the Administrator or Director of Nursing, provides leadership and direction for resident care policies.
Qualifications
- 8+ years’ experience in an acute care, long-term care or similar facility desired.
- 5+ years’ experience in nursing management or leadership desired.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. BS in Nursing or related field required.
- Current New York State RN license and registration in good standing.
- CPR certified.
- Current knowledge of best practice nursing standards and the care planning process.
- Proven patient assessment and clinical skills.
- Knowledge of applicable laws, guidelines and NY DOH regulations.
- Ability to manage, motivate and guide staff while carrying out the duties of an RN.
- Ability and knowledge to respond in emergency situations.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively with patients, residents, and families from diverse backgrounds who may have physical, sensory and mental impairments.
- Strategic planning capabilities.
- Proven decision-making, organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to analyze problems, plan resolution strategies, implement solutions and evaluate outcomes.
- Effective conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to be available 24/7 to handle on-call responsibilities.
- Proficient in MS Office, EMR and able to learn new software rapidly.
An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.
