About this role

Role Summary

The Simulator Maintainer & Systems Administrator is responsible for the continuous availability, reliability, security, and performance of all simulator systems within the Simulation Complex. This role covers preventive and corrective maintenance of hardware, software, networking infrastructure, audiovisual systems, simulator databases, and instructor support tools, and acts as the primary technical resource supporting instructors, trainees, and management to ensure uninterrupted delivery of training and assessment activities.

Key Responsibilities

Simulator Operations & Maintenance

  • Ensure all simulator systems are operational and available per the training schedule.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on simulator hardware, software, servers, workstations, networks, and audiovisual equipment.
  • Monitor system logs and proactively address issues before they affect operations.

Technical Support

  • Provide real-time technical support during training programs, examinations, and demonstrations.
  • Assist instructors in configuring and launching simulation exercises.
  • Support scenario loading, database management, and exercise recovery.
  • Resolve technical incidents during live training sessions with minimal disruption.

IT & Network Administration

  • Manage simulator networks, servers, storage systems, backups, and cybersecurity measures.
  • Maintain user accounts, permissions, and access controls.
  • Monitor network performance and connectivity across all simulator stations.
  • Coordinate software updates, patches, and system upgrades.

Maintenance Documentation

  • Maintain detailed maintenance records and service reports.
  • Track equipment faults, corrective actions, and spare parts usage.
  • Develop and update maintenance procedures, checklists, and technical documentation.
  • Maintain asset registers and configuration records.

Vendor & Contractor Coordination

  • Liaise with simulator manufacturers and support teams.
  • Coordinate remote diagnostics and on-site service activities.
  • Support acceptance testing following upgrades or repairs.
  • Monitor maintenance contracts and warranty obligations.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure simulator systems comply with organizational policies and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Support simulator audits, inspections, and accreditation requirements.
  • Maintain a safe working environment within technical spaces and server rooms.
  • Participate in business continuity and disaster recovery activities.

Essential

Diploma or Degree in one of the following (or an equivalent technical discipline):

  • Electronics Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Computer Engineering
  • Information Technology
  • Marine Engineering

Desirable

  • Maritime simulation experience
  • IT networking certification (CCNA or equivalent)
  • Microsoft, Linux
  • Cybersecurity certification if applicable

Experience

Essential

Minimum 3–5 years of technical support or maintenance experience in one or more of:

  • Simulators
  • Industrial control systems
  • Marine systems
  • Aviation simulators
  • Defence training systems
  • Complex integrated IT environments
