PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Salary to be commensurate with experience

The hiring range for this position is $22.01 - $27.51/hour

OVERVIEW OF POSITION / DEPARTMENT 

Performs manual labor duties in the operation, maintenance and repair of pump/lift stations and tanks/fore bays operating in the raw, potable, reuse and irrigation water distribution systems and wastewater collection systems and wet wells. 


PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Assists with scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repair activities at pump/lift stations, including pump rebuilds, motor removal/installation, check valve rebuilds and related infrastructure including tanks, forebays and wet wells 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned 
  • Responds to pump station and lift station emergencies 
  • Participates in mandatory Standby Duty with a 45 minute response time 
  • Performs snow removal activities  
  • Perform other related duties as assigned 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. 

Education:   

  • High school diploma or GED 

 

Experience:   

  • 1-year manual labor experience  

 

Knowledge: 

  • Understanding of hazards and common safety practices  
  • Understanding of hand tools and their uses 

Skills:   

  • Skilled in the safe use of hand and power tools  

 

Abilities:   

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, management and contractors/vendors 
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions 
  • Ability to operate or receive training on various types of tools and equipment 
  • Effective use of computers and electronic devices 
  • Ability to recognize hazards    

 

Licenses and Certifications Required:   

  • State issued driver license 

Ability to obtain with in first 6 months 

  • Class B CDL with air brake endorsement 

WORKING CONDITIONS  

Essential Personnel:  

This position is considered essential so when a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel. 

Physical Demands: 

  • Medium lifting not more than 50 pounds at a time and infrequent heavy lifting of not more than 100 pounds  
  • Frequent lifting, walking, bending, pushing, pulling, standing, stooping/crouching and climbing ladders  
  • Continuous hand/eye coordination for operation of power tools, vehicles and equipment  
  • Speech to maintain communication with employees and contractors/vendors 
  • Vision to read manuals, gauges and test equipment 
  • Hearing for instruction, troubleshooting and warning signals 

Work Environment: 

  • Works both indoors/outdoors in all-weather conditions, with exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, insects and wildlife 
  • Occasional work in confined spaces 
  • Works in close proximity of low, medium and high voltage equipment 
  • Works in close proximity of raw sewage 
  • Works in close proximity of overhead cranes 

Equipment Used: 

  • Operates a variety of hand & power tools and equipment common to maintenance and repair activities 
  • Uses computer and electronic devices for email and data input 
  • Operates a motor vehicle, tandem axle dump truck, 1ton box tool truck 
  • This position may require the incumbent to use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tablet, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment 

 

The city of Aurora will implement furlough days (unpaid days off) for most employees in 2026. The scheduled furlough dates are January 16, April 10, July 2, and December 24.
