Vice President, Engineering Lead

We’re looking for an  Vice President, Engineering Lead 

Based in Bermuda and reporting to the SVP, Head of Information Systems, you will be responsible for the end-to-end technology delivery and execution supporting Hamilton Re’s underwriting, analytics, and operational strategy. This role provides leadership across application platforms, data and analytics, integrations, and vendor solutions, ensuring technology initiatives are pragmatic, reliable, and aligned to business priorities.

Hamilton Re is our Bermuda-based company which provides both reinsurance and across property, casualty and specialty lines globally. 

What you will do

Technology Delivery & Platform Leadership

• Provide technology leadership across Hamilton Re’s core platforms supporting underwriting, pricing, analytics, and operations.
• Own the delivery-focused technology roadmap aligned to business strategy and portfolio priorities.
• Ensure solutions are fit-for-purpose, scalable, secure, and supportable.
• Partner with Architecture Review Board while providing hands-on technical leadership to shape pragmatic, delivery‑focused solutions aligned with enterprise architecture standards.
  

Application, Data & Integration Oversight

• Lead delivery and evolution of internal and third-party platforms.
• Oversee data and analytics technology supporting pricing, underwriting, portfolio management, and reporting.
• Ensure reliable integration across platforms and external partners.
• Promote consistency and reuse while avoiding unnecessary complexity.
  

Delivery Partnership & Governance

• Partner with PMO and portfolio leadership to ensure delivery plans are technically realistic.
• Lead technical input into Steering Committee discussions, including architecture trade-offs, delivery risks, and solution decisions.
• Accountable for managing technical risks, dependencies, and key delivery decisions.
• Support release planning, cutover readiness, and change control.
• Provide hands-on technical guidance on complex solution decisions, including architecture direction, integration patterns, and vendor solution design.
  

Vendor & Partner Management

• Oversee delivery performance of strategic technology vendors and systems integrators.
• Ensure vendor solutions align with architectural, security, and operational expectations.
• Partner with Procurement, Legal, and Finance on vendor governance from a technology perspective.
  

Team Leadership & Capability Building

• Lead and develop engineering leads, engineers, and delivery-aligned technical resources.
• Establish clear ownership, decision rights, and escalation paths.
• Foster a pragmatic, accountable, delivery-focused technology culture.

What you require for the role

• Technology leadership experience, preferably within insurance or reinsurance.
• Strong experience leading enterprise application platforms, including internal and third-party systems, across data & analytics, integrations, and vendor-led delivery.
• Proven ability to communicate technical trade-offs to senior leadership.
• Proven experience overseeing systems integration and data flows across complex technology landscapes, including broker, vendor, and finance integrations (e.g., ACORD or equivalent messaging and standards‑based integrations).
• Demonstrable experience with enterprise architecture principles, with the ability to assess solution trade‑offs, technical debt, and long‑term platform implications pragmatically.
• Experience operating within regulated or controlled change environments, including release management, change control, and production readiness disciplines.
• Strong vendor-led delivery experience, including evaluating solution approaches, managing implementation risk, and ensuring long term supportability of externally delivered platforms.
• Demonstrable ability to operate as a senior technical leader within a delivery-focused organization.
