Position Summary

Brown Advisory is seeking a collaborative, solutions-oriented leader to join our Operations department as Team Lead of Transaction Management. This is a high-impact role for someone who enjoys leading people, solving complex operational problems, building strong relationships, and improving how critical workflows are executed across a growing investment platform.

The Transaction Management Team is responsible for reconciliation, corporate actions, transaction oversight, and related portfolio accounting workflows that help ensure Brown Advisory’s books and records are accurate, complete, and ready to support daily trading, portfolio management, client reporting, and investment operations.

The Team Lead will oversee the team’s daily execution while also helping shape the future operating model for Transaction Management. This includes developing colleagues, managing our outsourced reconciliation relationship with Broadridge, partnering with internal stakeholders and external service providers, and driving improvements to strengthen controls, reduce manual effort, and improve scalability.

This role is well suited for someone who enjoys operating in the details while also stepping back to improve processes, build trust with stakeholders, and strengthen how the team supports a growing investment platform.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the daily oversight of Transaction Management workflows, including reconciliation, corporate actions, transaction processing, and related portfolio accounting responsibilities, ensuring work is completed accurately and within established deadlines.
  • Oversee Brown Advisory’s outsourced reconciliation model, including service delivery, escalation management, exception review, performance oversight, issue resolution, and ongoing control improvements.
  • Serve as a primary escalation point for complex reconciliation, corporate action, transaction, and portfolio accounting issues, including identifying root causes, assessing downstream impact, coordinating across teams, and driving issues to resolution.
  • Oversee the full lifecycle of mandatory and voluntary corporate actions, including event research, interpretation of terms, communication and election management, transaction processing, and post-event validation.
  • Build strong relationships across Operations, Investment teams, Client Service, Compliance, Technology, custodians, vendors, and other business partners to manage dependencies, resolve issues, and support business priorities.
  • Translate complex operational issues into clear, practical explanations for stakeholders with varying levels of operational or technical knowledge.
  • Manage team resources and daily workload allocation to ensure appropriate coverage of critical responsibilities, including planning for absences, high-volume periods, competing priorities, and changing business requirements.
  • Develop Transaction Management colleagues through coaching, feedback, training, cross-training, and clear expectations, while promoting ownership, accountability, and broader team coverage.
  • Challenge existing processes and identify opportunities to improve controls, reduce manual work, increase transparency, and make the team more scalable through process redesign, automation, AI-enabled solutions, reporting, data analysis, and other technology-enabled improvements.
  • Lead and participate in departmental and firmwide projects involving new products, custodians, systems, data feeds, operating models, and other business changes impacting Transaction Management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • 4+ years of relevant investment management, financial services, or operational experience, preferably in investment operations, reconciliation, portfolio accounting, corporate actions, trade support, or a related function.
  • Experience leading, coaching, training, or mentoring colleagues in a daily production or operational environment.
  • Strong understanding of operational risk and the downstream impact that reconciliation exceptions, transactions, and corporate actions can have on trading, portfolio management, performance, client reporting, and other business processes.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to evaluate complex issues, identify root causes, assess risk, and recommend practical solutions.
  • Strong relationship-management skills, with the ability to build trust and work effectively across internal teams, external service providers, custodians, and technology partners.
  • Ability to communicate complex operational issues clearly and concisely to stakeholders with varying levels of technical or operational knowledge.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage competing priorities, deadlines, escalations, and daily production responsibilities.
  • Curious, proactive, and comfortable challenging existing processes to improve controls, efficiency, transparency, and scalability.
  • Strong technical aptitude and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Experience with SS&C Advent APX, corporate action platforms, Bloomberg, reconciliation systems, outsourced operations providers, or custodian platforms is preferred but not required.
  • Experience using automation, data analysis, reporting tools, or AI-enabled solutions to improve operational processes is preferred.
  • Ability to work in office five days weekly
