The Volunteer’s Role

Cuso International is looking for a motivated and experienced professional to join our Volunteering Cooperation Program in Moshi, Tanzania.

In this role, you will support the IMTT Unit at VETA Moshi by strengthening the capacity of trainers delivering underground mining programs. Working alongside local trainers and technical experts, you will help improve teaching methods, enhance training materials, and ensure programs reflect current industry needs.

Through the SHARE Project partnership with VETA, your work will contribute to building a strong, sustainable training system. This will empower local trainers to continue delivering high quality mining education long after your placement ends.

As a volunteer, you will:

  • Assess current underground mining training programs, trainer skills, and institutional needs
  • Review and improve curricula, training manuals, and learning materials to meet global standards
  • Deliver Training of Trainers workshops focused on adult learning and competency-based training
  • Mentor and coach trainers through observations, co-facilitation, and ongoing feedback
  • Introduce practical teaching methods such as simulations, case studies, and workplace learning
  • Support collaboration between trainers, industry partners, and international experts
  • Help implement quality assurance systems for training delivery and continuous improvement
  • Develop a sustainability plan to support long-term knowledge transfer and impact

Essential Qualifications:

  • Degree or advanced diploma in Mining Engineering, Underground Mining, Mineral Engineering, Technical Education, Adult Education, or a related field.

Essential Background:

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in underground mining operations, mining training, or mining workforce development.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering Training of Trainers (ToT) programs
  • Experience developing or implementing competency-based technical training curricula.
  • Experience working with vocational, technical, or post-secondary training institutions.
  • Experience mentoring instructors or technical trainers.

Volunteer Support and Requirements 

Support Package

Cuso International provides a comprehensive support package to ensure volunteers maintain a modest and healthy lifestyle aligned with local standards. This includes:

Selection and Screening

If you are shortlisted, you will need to: 

  • Confirm passport or permanent resident details for travel 
  • Provide two professional references and one personal reference 
  • Complete a language assessment during the initial phone interview 
  • Pass a police check and medical clearance before departure 
  • Comply with anti-terrorism checks 
  • Agree to uphold the Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) policy and Code of Conduct
