About this role

Role Summary

The Sustainability Engineer is responsible for ensuring that all sustainability-related requirements are implemented and maintained throughout the construction phase. The role focuses on compliance with approved sustainability reports, specifications, LEED requirements, and applicable local and international codes and standards. The Sustainability Engineer works closely with the Resident Engineer (RE) and project stakeholders to monitor site activities, approve materials, and support project reporting and certification processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow up on project sustainability requirements in accordance with approved sustainability reports, specifications, and project commitments.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with water efficiency and energy efficiency requirements as per applicable codes, standards, and sustainability frameworks.
  • Review and approve all Material Approval Requests (MARs) submitted by the contractor, ensuring alignment with sustainability and LEED requirements.
  • Monitor and control site construction activities to ensure compliance with LEED requirements and approved sustainability strategies.
  • Identify sustainability-related non-conformances, recommend corrective actions, and follow up on their effective implementation.
  • Assist the Resident Engineer in preparing Monthly Progress Reports, with a focus on sustainability performance and compliance status.
  • Review and approve As-Built Drawings related to sustainability systems prior to final approval by the Resident Engineer.
  • Assist in the preparation of Final Acceptance and Completion Reports, ensuring sustainability requirements are fully achieved and documented.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, Architecture, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in sustainability engineering or environmental compliance on construction projects, preferably large-scale developments.
  • Sound knowledge of LEED rating systems, sustainability standards, and green building codes.
  • Experience in monitoring water and energy efficiency measures during construction.
  • Familiarity with material submittal reviews and sustainability documentation.
  • Strong reporting, coordination, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and consultants.
  • LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) certification is an advantage.
