Overview
Performs technical skills and assists the surgeons, anesthesia personnel, registered nurses, central sterile and other professionals in the operating room. ย May Perform similar duties in other areas of the hospital as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Sets up tables, instruments and supplies required for specific operation. Carries out surgical asepsis.
- Assists surgical team during operative procedure.
- Assists in the preparation for surgical procedures.
- Assists in the preoperative preparation of patients.
- Assists with table equipment, positioning of patients, application of plaster casts and dressings.
- Prepares operative specimens, places in preservative solution and delivers to Laboratory for analysis.
- Assists in transporting patients to and from the Operating Room, Recovery Room, and patient area.
- Assists in cleaning operating room, equipment and instruments following surgery.
- Cleans and stocks storage room.
- Prepares Operating Room for the next case or next day.
- Records data on patients' record data sheets and O.R. logs.
- Must rotate on call as required.
- Performs duties of Nursing Aide as requested, when O.R. is not busy.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma required.

Experience
- One (1) to three (3) years of experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Working knowledge of problem solving and decision making skills.
- Working knowledge of digital literacy skills.
ย
Licenses & Certifications
- Grade 10: Two years' experience as an O.R.T. including successful completion of hospital sponsored self-instructional program in operating room technology as well as documented clinical hours; OR
- A Certified Operating Room Technician with six (6) months experience in operating room technology.
- Successful completion of a hospital-approved Nursing Aide Training Program.
- Successful completion of on-the-job training program in O.R. technique.
