The Laboratory Supervisor - Technical is responsible for the effective daily operation and oversight of their department(s) with support from their direct leader. Individuals in this role have a split responsibility between technical laboratory testing and department specific leadership.

Responsibilities
Clinical Excellence
• Prepares biological specimens, arranges and assigns workload bypriority. • Consistently demonstrates attention to detail in following policiesrelated to proper identification and labeling.• Provides accurate laboratory test results within established turnaroundtime expectations. • Advanced troubleshooting skills, pre-analytic, analytic and postanalytic.• Makes good independent decisions based upon knowledge of theoverall functions, policies, and procedures in the assigned area toensure accurate and quality patient care• Recognizes and interprets quality control outliers and abnormal patientresults• Performs preventative maintenance and troubleshooting on highlycomplex equipment.• Uses a variety of computer systems for orders, results, tracking,quality control, and problem solving. • May perform specimen collections from patients of all ages
Operations
Adjusts staffing needs and staff assignments based on workload tooptimize productivity and efficiency. Plans, coordinate and directs thedaily activities of the department by helping the team prioritize thework and allocate resources appropriately.• Supports implementation of department specific changes througheffective leadership and change management.• Responsible for assisting their direct leader in creating and maintainingdepartment specific policies and procedures.• Communicates department specific goals and helps lead the team tobe successful.• Frequently evaluates daily operations and services and communicatesimprovement opportunities to their direct leader. Works with internaland external stakeholders to implement and communicate thechanges.• Acts as the subject matter expert for their department(s) services. • Monitor and oversee safety procedures in their respectivedepartment(s)
People
Ensures effective recruitment, selection, supervision and retention ofdirect reports• Responsible for the approval of time keeping and scheduling for theirdirect reports.• Conducts annual performance appraisals for assigned teammembers.• Develop and maintain communication to establish regular andconsistent communication with team members and their direct leader.• Share concerns and/or escalate issues to their direct leader• Holds regular department and/or lab specific huddles.• Responsible for ensuring all employees have been properly trained andcompleted competency assessments as scheduled.• Oversees supply items in a cost-effective manner, recognizing when toreorder, and assisting with unpacking and/or restocking items.
Quality
Always ensures inspection readiness of their department(s) followingCAP guidelines as well as other relevant governing bodies.• Participates in CAP inspections• Identification, investigation, and escalation of opportunities identifiedthrough adverse event reporting, via key process indicators, huddlediscussions and customer feedback.
Qualifications
- Education: Associate degree in a laboratory science (chemical or biological science) or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution, or equivalent laboratory training and experience meeting the requirements defined in CLIA regulation 42 CFR 493OR Bachelor's Degreee in a chemical or biological science. Must include at least 60 semester hours, or equivalent, from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, include either-• 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; or• 24 semester hours of science courses that include:o 6 semester hours of chemistry;o 6 semester hours of biology;and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratorytechnology in any combinationExperience: 2 years Clinical Laboratory experience required
- License/Certifications: MLS, MLS-AMT, IMLS-ASCP, MT-AMT, MT (AAB)
- Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills.
