About the Role

JGM is hiring experienced Flux-Core Structural Welders for our fabrication shops in Coatesville, PA and Sinking Spring, PA.

Our welders perform hands-on structural steel fabrication in an indoor shop environment, including material preparation, grinding, gouging, fit-up support, welding, and weld repair.

Our primary welding process is dual-shield FCAW using 1/16" wire on carbon structural steel.

Coatesville: AWS D1.1 beam and column fabrication
Sinking Spring: AWS D1.5 bridge fabrication; welds must be able to pass UT inspection

What Makes These Roles Attractive

  • Competitive pay of $23–$34/hour, based on proven experience and weld-test performance
  • $120/day per diem for eligible employees who work the required schedule
  • Consistent overtime and weekly pay
  • Approximately 58+ hours per week
  • Potential for higher-hour schedules in Coatesville, including alternating weeks of up to approximately 68 hours
  • Work in one primary location rather than traveling continuously from project to project

  • Assignment expected to last up to 6 months, with the possibility of extension or conversion to full-time employment

Before You Apply

This opportunity is best suited for experienced structural welders who are comfortable with the following:

  • Working 6 days per week and 58+ hours
  • Traveling independently to JGM to complete a weld test before an offer is finalized
  • Completing a weld test before a final pay rate is confirmed
  • Providing a resume that clearly demonstrates relevant FCAW structural steel experience
  • Performing more than welding when production requires it, including grinding, gouging, cleaning, material preparation, and other fabrication-related tasks

What You'll Do

  • Perform structural steel welding on beams, columns, bridge components, connections, and other fabricated steel members
  • Weld carbon structural steel using FCAW, with additional processes potentially including SMAW, GMAW, and SAW depending on the project
  • Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions as required
  • Prepare material by cleaning, grinding, gouging, and performing other necessary weld-preparation activities
  • Read and interpret shop drawings, weld symbols, joint details, and fabrication requirements
  • Set up welding equipment and select appropriate wire, gas, amperage, and other settings
  • Inspect your own work for weld quality, including undercut, porosity, profile, spatter, and other visible defects
  • Repair welds identified as non-conforming by QC or a CWI
  • Maintain required welder qualifications and successfully complete applicable weld testing
  • Follow all shop safety procedures, hot-work requirements, and PPE standards
  • Maintain welding equipment, leads, tools, and work areas in safe operating condition
  • Assist with other fabrication-related duties as production needs require

What You Bring

  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on FCAW experience on structural steel
  • Demonstrated experience welding carbon structural steel
  • Ability to successfully complete JGM's applicable weld test

Coatesville

  • Experience working to AWS D1.1
  • Experience with structural beam and column fabrication
  • Ability to weld in the positions required by the work, including vertical and overhead as applicable

  • Bridge or heavy structural fabrication experience strongly preferred
  • Ability to produce welds capable of passing Ultrasonic Testing (UT)

Additional Qualifications

  • Ability to read structural drawings, weld symbols, and fabrication details
  • Working knowledge of AWS structural welding requirements
  • Experience with FCAW dual-shield welding strongly preferred
  • Comfortable working independently and maintaining consistent weld quality
  • Dependable, safety-focused, and able to work the required overtime schedule
  • Ability to pass required background and drug screening

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and work around large structural steel components
  • Wear required PPE, including welding hood, gloves, safety-toed footwear, hearing protection, and other required protective equipment
