Job Description

Overview

Let's make great design possible.

Are you ready to take up a vital role in shaping some of our exciting projects? How about joining our talented team, where everyone has a voice, and together we face our clients' problems head-on. It's a diverse and inclusive work environment where world-class talent knows no distinctions.

We know that different people have different priorities, which is why we're here to support you. Flexible and remote working is a central part of our culture. So talk to us about what's ideal for you – from reduced weeks to buying more leave over school holidays. And if you're returning from a career break, ask us how we can help you transition back into work with us.

As a Bridge Engineer in our Bridges and Civils team within the Transportation business, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of transport. We work on a diverse range of significant and challenging projects across the UK and Ireland, including Lower Thames Crossing, highways works for Sizewell C and Heathrow, and key schemes across the M25 for Connect Plus Services.

The team also supports non‑transportation civil engineering and structural projects throughout the UK and internationally, such as Hinkley Point C, Transporter Bridge, and Moonshot. We also deliver a wide range of local authority projects for councils across the South, including Buckinghamshire Council, Surrey County Council and Cambridgeshire County Council.

You’ll take pride in producing high‑quality civil and structural designs for new builds, renewals, maintenance and assessments. You’ll experience real satisfaction in helping to shape robust, high‑quality infrastructure across all stages of design and delivery.

Your role

  • Take pride in developing high-quality civil and structural designs for new constructions, renewals, maintenance, and assessments.
  • Collaborate with both national and international design teams, utilizing your experience to create positive, sustainable impacts on society and the environment.

  • Undertake technical work independently, including the production of high-quality design documentation including sketches, drawings, 3D BIM deliverables, analysis models, calculations, reports and specifications.
  • Provide guidance and support for more junior members of staff.
  • Support on bids, tenders and winning work.
  • Sound interpersonal skills and ability to converse with a wide range of colleagues across a number of engineering disciplines.

About you

  • A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Near Chartered/Chartered status and membership of the ICE or IStructE.
  • Experience of working on projects with key clients such as Transport Scotland and National Highways, Network Rail, local authorities as well as major Contractors and Developers.
  • Good understanding of relevant design standards (e.g. Eurocodes, DMRB, MCHW and Network Rail standards).
  • Practical knowledge and experience of bridge design, maintenance and assessment.
  • Experience of structural analysis software packages such as LUSAS, MIDAS and Autodesk Structural Bridge Design.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to converse with a wide range of clients, stakeholders and colleagues across a number of engineering disciplines.
