Position Summary

The Senior Staff Accountant supports the Controller in overseeing the daily accounting operations of the company, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulations. This role is responsible for managing key accounting functions including inventory and cost accounting, accounts payable, cash management, sales and use tax compliance, and month-end close activities.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting professional with manufacturing experience who can effectively balance operational accounting responsibilities with process improvement initiatives and cross-functional collaboration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & General Accounting

• Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.

• Manage and participate in month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial analysis.

• Review general ledger activity and ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records.

• Support external audits, tax compliance, and financial reporting requirements.

Inventory & Cost Accounting

• Oversee inventory accounting for raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods.

• Monitor inventory valuation, reserves, and reconciliations to ensure accurate financial reporting.

• Analyze manufacturing variances, including labor, material, and overhead costs.

• Partner with operations and supply chain teams to improve inventory controls and accuracy.

• Support physical inventory counts and cycle count programs.

• Assist with standard cost maintenance and cost accounting analysis.

Cash Management & Treasury

• Monitor daily cash activity and manage cash reporting processes.

• Assist in cash flow forecasting and working capital management.

• Review cash disbursements and ensure adherence to company policies and internal controls.

• Support initiatives to optimize liquidity and improve cash management processes.

Accounts Payable Management

• Oversee accounts payable operations to ensure timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments.

• Review vendor reconciliations and resolve payment discrepancies.

• Monitor payment schedules and cash requirements.

• Evaluate and improve accounts payable processes and controls.

• Collaborate with purchasing and operations teams to ensure accurate invoice matching and vendor management.

Accounts Receivable Management

• Manage and oversee the Accounts Receivable process, including customer invoicing, cash application, account reconciliations, and collections.

• Monitor customer accounts and maintain accurate AR aging reports.

• Review outstanding receivables and follow up on past-due balances in coordination with customers and internal teams.

• Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies, short payments, unapplied cash, credits, and customer account issues.

• Coordinate with Sales, Operations, Customer Service, and other departments to resolve invoicing and collection issues.

Sales & Use Tax Compliance

• Manage sales and use tax filings and related compliance activities across applicable jurisdictions.

• Review tax accruals and reconciliations to ensure accuracy.

• Coordinate with external tax advisors and auditors as needed.

• Monitor changes in tax regulations and ensure compliance with reporting requirements.

Internal Controls & Process Improvement

• Maintain and strengthen internal controls across accounting, inventory, purchasing, cash management, and accounts payable functions.

• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and system efficiencies.

• Support documentation and enforcement of accounting policies and procedures.

Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Serve as a business partner to operations, supply chain, purchasing, and executive leadership.

• Assist the Controller with strategic initiatives, special projects, and continuous improvement efforts.

• Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and operational excellence within the accounting function.

Education

·         Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.

Experience

·         4+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment.

·         Experience with inventory accounting, cost accounting, accounts payable, cash management, and financial reporting.

·         Experience with Quickbooks Desktop.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

·         Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.

·         Understanding of manufacturing accounting and cost accounting principles.

·         Experience managing accounts payable, cash management, and sales tax compliance.

·         Advanced Microsoft Excel and financial analysis skills.

·         Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.

·         Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

·         Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
