What You Own

  • Technical ownership of the complete SCOUT product ecosystem.
  • SCOUT product architecture, lifecycle, NPD roadmap, compliance, and major technical decisions.
  • Technical leadership of truck camper and trailer platform engineering.
  • Engineering release, validation requirements, product-level change approval, and technical BOM integrity.
  • Own ERP and CAD model readiness for product release, ensuring engineering models, drawings, BOMs, part data, revisions, and released configurations are complete, synchronized, and production-ready.
  • Technical resolution of product quality, field, warranty, supplier, and production issues.
  • Leadership and development of the SCOUT Design Engineer and Product Engineer - SCOUT Trailers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead SCOUT product strategy from a technical perspective and translate product intent into executable engineering requirements.
  • Lead major NPD programs, architecture decisions, prototypes, design reviews, and technical risk management.
  • Remain hands-on in modeling, prototypes, testing, troubleshooting, and critical design work.
  • Ensure common systems, components, and design principles are leveraged across SCOUT platforms where beneficial.
  • Provide technical oversight and decision authority for the trailer platform while delegating day-to-day platform engineering.
  • Drive product simplicity, weight efficiency, durability, manufacturability, and differentiated customer experience.

Cross-Functional Responsibilities

  • Operations and Manufacturing Engineering on DFM, process readiness, line launch, cost, and production issues.
  • Quality on validation plans, NPD quality gates, root cause, corrective actions, and field/warranty learning.
  • Supply Chain on supplier technical requirements, component selection, alternates, and technical issue resolution.
  • Service, Sales, and Marketing on field feedback, customer requirements, product changes, and launch readiness.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, product design engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent directly relevant experience considered.
  • Typically 7+ years of progressive product engineering experience, including ownership of complex physical products through development and sustaining phases.
  • Strong 3D CAD, drawing, GD&T, BOM, configuration/change-control, prototype, and production-support capability.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional technical work without relying on a large program-management organization.
  • Hands-on problem solver comfortable moving between CAD, prototypes, suppliers, testing, and the production floor.
  • Experience in outdoor products, RVs, trailers, automotive, powersports, marine, or other design-led durable products preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multiple related product platforms while maintaining a coherent technical architecture.

What Success Looks Like

  • SCOUT expands into new segments without losing technical coherence or brand/product simplicity.
  • Platform engineers have meaningful ownership while technical accountability remains clear.
  • Truck camper and trailer programs progress with disciplined validation and production readiness.
  • ERP product data, CAD models, drawings, BOMs, and released configurations are aligned and ready before production release.
  • SCOUT product quality, weight, manufacturability, and field performance improve over time.
  • New product development remains fast and entrepreneurial without sacrificing engineering rigor.

Operating principle: Own the SCOUT technical ecosystem, empower platform engineers, and preserve simplicity as the portfolio grows.
