About this role

About the role

We are a high-growth med tech company preparing for IPO, and we're looking for a hands-on Senior FP&A Manager, Operations and Commercial Finance, to join our Finance team. You will own our Revenue and COGS forecasting models end to end and serve as the primary finance business partner to Commercial, R&D, Operations, and Quality leadership. This is the seat where our commercial and operational financial story comes together. It is high impact, high visibility, and deeply cross-functional: you'll work directly with the CCO, COO, and CRO, and your models and analytics will shape how the company forecasts growth and margins as it steers toward its next stage.

This position is based in our Company Headquarters in Redwood City, CA and is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of two days per week in the office. Relocation assistance is not being offered for this position.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
  • 7–10+ years of progressive experience in FP&A, Commercial Finance, or related roles, ideally spanning both high-growth/private and public-company environments. Experience in a smaller or mid-sized organization (typically under ~1,000 employees), that already launched a commercial product with direct exposure to a Commercial or Sales organization, is strongly preferred.
  • Revenue forecasting ownership, with cost/margin modeling exposure: you've personally built and owned a driver-based revenue model — not maintained one you inherited — and can walk through the drivers behind it (pricing, volume, mix, channel). You've partnered directly with a Commercial or Sales organization to keep it accurate and ideally have direct exposure to cost or margin modeling as well, since this role also owns the company's full COGS build.
  • Master-level Excel and hands-on financial modeling expertise: you've personally built driver-based models and can clearly distinguish what you built from what you inherited. When you encounter a problem you haven't solved before, you proactively find the answer — including leveraging AI and other tools — rather than treating it as a blocker.
  • Medical device or med tech industry experience at a revenue-generating, commercial-stage company with a capital equipment-plus-consumable (or comparable durable-asset-plus-recurring-revenue) business model — you've built or owned Revenue and/or COGS models that account for both a durable product line and a recurring one, not a purely per-unit or reimbursement-driven revenue stream.
  • A track record of pushing back on a business partner who missed a target, then proposing and negotiating a resolution — not just escalating the miss.
  • Demonstrated ownership under ambiguity: you've built a process, model, or tool that didn't exist before and driven its adoption, and you've delivered on a hard deadline despite a non-responsive partner or an unexpected roadblock — without treating either as an excuse.
  • A standard of independent accountability: you've operated where your numbers faced real external scrutiny and consequence for being wrong — whether that's board/investor-level diligence, an annual audit, or public-company reporting — and you can describe what it means to own that outcome yourself, not with a team absorbing the risk around you.

What you'll do

  • Own the Revenue model end to end — building and maintaining the driver-based revenue forecast across the company's key revenue streams in partnership with Commercial leadership — and build and own the full COGS model across the product portfolio, incorporating the generator input from the manufacturing team alongside disposables costs, overhead absorption, and allocations, and surfacing accurate margin drivers and cost visibility at the corporate level.
  • Lead the commercial and operations forecasting cycles, including the quarterly forecast, annual budgeting, and long-range planning processes for Revenue and COGS — owning forecasting templates, key assumptions, deliverables, and cross-functional timelines.
  • Own OPEX forecasting and budgeting across the business units this role supports — S&M spend under the CCO, R&D/Facilities/IT spend under the COO, and RAQA spend under the CRO — partnering with each function to build accurate, driver-based budgets and identify risk to plan.
  • Run monthly variance analysis and business reviews across Commercial revenue, COGS/margins, and OPEX performance for the business units this role supports, partnering with Commercial, Operations and Quality teams. When targets are missed, identify the underlying drivers and recommend a clear path forward — not just report the variance.
  • Prepare Board and executive-level financial materials for revenue and margin performance, ensuring forecasts, results, KPIs, and supporting analyses are accurate, consistent, and validated across source systems; serve as a reliable source of truth for commercial and operational financial reporting.
  • Own FP&A systems and/or templates for Revenue and COGS modeling and drive process improvement, including automation and enhancements that improve scalability, efficiency, data integrity, and reporting accuracy.
  • Support IPO and public-company readiness by building scalable Revenue and COGS forecasting, planning, and reporting processes aligned with U.S. GAAP, accrual accounting, corporate policies, and evolving public-company requirements

This role pays between $180,000 and $195,000 per year, and your actual base pay will depend on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience.
