Sr Damage Prevention Technician - Damage Prevention Specialist

THIS JOB DESCRIPTION DOES NOT ATTEMPT TO LIST ALL OF THE DUTIES THAT ARE OR MAY BE PERFORMED IN THIS POSITION Primary Duties 1. Accurately locates and marks company gas facilities. 2. Trains and mentors entry level and less experienced damage prevention technicians. 3. Performs more difficult line locates. 4. May perform QA/QC activities on less experienced technicians & contractors. 5. Reads and interprets system maps. Assures the accuracy of company maps and records as they relate to damage prevention. 6. Works with company crews and outside contractors to be available for any needed re-marking to prevent damage. 7. Conducts investigations of gas facility damages, determining root causes. 8. Maintains relationships with area excavators, municipalities, and other company personnel responsible for excavation activities. Reports suspected system damage. May be involved with damage prevention awareness activities. 9. Completes and maintains accurate records and reports to comply with company and regulatory requirements. 10. Assists other operations functions as needed and may perform C&M and service work when not performing damage prevention duties. 11. May be required to hold stand-by duty, work shifts, holidays, weekends, emergency call outs, and occasional extensive hours. 12. Is subject to reporting outside regular work area. 13. Identifies, addresses, and reports safety and encroachment issues to their resolution and completion. 14. Is responsible for the safe operation and inspection of assigned company vehicles and equipment. 15. Must become familiar with the contents of the Safety Manual, live by the spirit of its intent and become involved in creating and maintaining a safe working environment. Must complete all required safety training. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Educational/Experience Level: A general educational knowledge acquired through a high school diploma or a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) plus two years of experience in damage prevention field experience. Requires an in-depth knowledge of Company operations. Certificates, Licenses, etc.: While at this level, must complete any assigned training and learning for the position. Must obtain and maintain minimum Operator Qualifications (OQs) and certifications for the position. Requires valid driver's license in accordance with Company standards. Communication Skills: Requires the ability to communicate with internal/external customers and stakeholders to obtain and provide explanations and/or information. Computer Skills: Records management system experience is required. Requires ability to utilize the Company's internet/intranet web site and available resources for data entry, reference and/or retrieval tasks. Work Conditions: Works outdoors in all types of weather and may be exposed to extremes of climate and temperatures, high noise levels, rough terrain, and occasional work on ladders, roofs, attics, and under houses as well as confined spaces. May require extensive and/or overnight travel. May have residence requirement due to call-out response time. Physical Demands: Requires occasionally performing activities including, but not limited to, bending, stooping, grasping, reaching, twisting, turning and/or lifting. Requires the acute sense of sight and hearing (corrected or uncorrected) and strong sense of smell. Requires extensive walking on a daily basis. Must be able to lift tools, equipment and materials up to and including 45 pounds. Other Requirements: As a Safety-Sensitive position, pre and post-employment screenings, including but not limited to drug testing as outlined by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), and motor vehicle record (MVR) background checks are required.
