What is the Special Education Teacher Role?

As a special education teacher (referred to as a Student Support Coordinator at Brooke), you build strong relationships with students in order to push them to be their best selves both academically and personally. You collaborate with colleagues in order to meet the needs of every student by ensuring accommodations are met and developing intervention plans. To that end, you will take part in IEP and 504 meetings, and participate in professional development throughout the year.

This position is a critical member of the instructional team, responsible for teaching daily support classes in math, science, life skills, and literacy. Additional responsibilities may include drafting, implementing, and maintaining IEPs and 504 plans, as well as participating in child study team meetings. A working knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is required.

Salaries are based on years of special education experience. Candidates who join our team with a license or degree in special education are eligible for competitive salaries, aligned with local districts. The salary range is $74,000–$130,000, commensurate with experience.

Student support coordinators will also earn an additional $3,300 stipend for teaching a high-need subject area.
