Software Engineer Specialist

The Role

As a Software Engineer Specialist reporting to the Director - Software Engineering, you'll play a critical role in building and maintaining the technology platforms that power Nasdaq's market operations. You'll own the development and reliability of a complex, high-performance client-server web platform that supports real-time financial activity and exchange operations at scale.

Key Responsibilities 

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services, APIs, and web applications using Java and modern web technologies. 

• Lead architectural decisions and code reviews to ensure secure, high-quality, and high-performance software delivery. 

• Build and optimize client-server applications that support real-time market data processing, transaction workflows, and exchange operations. 

• Collaborate with infrastructure, DevOps, and QA teams to ensure reliable integration, deployment, and support across Linux-based environments. 

• Troubleshoot complex production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term solutions to improve system reliability, scalability, and performance. 

• Maintain technical documentation and ensure adherence to industry standards, security best practices, and regulatory requirements. 

Required Qualifications 

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. 

• 5+ years of software engineering experience developing enterprise-scale applications using Java, SQL, and modern software engineering principles. 

• Experience building and supporting web-based applications using React (or similar frameworks) within Linux-based environments. 

• Strong understanding of client-server architectures, API development, system integration, multi-threaded programming, and performance optimization. 

• Proven ability to build, deploy, and support secure, scalable, and high-performing systems while collaborating across cross-functional teams. 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Experience working in capital markets, trading systems, fintech, or other regulated financial environments. 

• Familiarity with real-time data processing, event-driven architectures, low-latency systems, and market connectivity protocols such as FIX. 

• Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines, and system monitoring or observability tools. 

• Knowledge of secure software development practices, regulatory compliance requirements, and production support in mission-critical environments. 

This position will be located in New York and offers the opportunity for a hybrid work environment at least 3 days a week in-office, subject to change, providing flexibility and accessibility for qualified candidates.
