The ideal candidate possesses deep architectural knowledge of Android AOSP and exceptional system-level debugging skills. In this role, you will diagnose and resolve critical software issues within the Telephony and RIL stacks, collaborate with carrier and chipset vendors, and interface directly with Zebra customers.

Additionally, you will leverage and develop custom AI-driven solutions to automate support workflows.

Prior experience with WWAN technologies (4G/LTE/5G) and Qualcomm chipsets is highly desirable and a strong added advantage.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Resolve Android framework and OS issues on Zebra Mobile Computing products in the software sustaining engineering team.
  • Execute expert-level problem-solving on complex Android system-level software issues, utilizing deep-dive log analysis and AOSP source code debugging.
  • Work extensively with the Android AOSP source code, specifically isolating and troubleshooting issues within the Telephony framework, Radio Interface Layer (RIL), and cellular modem layers.
  • Collaborate directly with network carriers and chipset vendors (e.g., Qualcomm) to resolve complex network interoperability, IMS/VoLTE, and data throughput escalations.
  • Develop and integrate custom AI-driven solutions to automate diagnostics (e.g., automated modem log parsing), streamline workflows, and continuously improve support efficiency.
  • Collaborate closely with customers to understand their use cases and connectivity challenges, providing timely and effective solutions.
  • Partner with SW engineering, System testing, and product management to drive resolution of customer issues and contribute to product improvements.
  • Create technical documentation, knowledge base articles, and training materials.
  • Mentor and assist other support engineers, sharing WWAN expertise and fostering technical excellence.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline. Advanced Degree is a plus.
  • 2+ years of relevant software engineering experience, with significant experience in a customer-facing or support role.
  • Exceptional hands-on experience navigating, modifying, and debugging the Android AOSP source code.
  • Proficiency in applied AI, with the ability to build and integrate AI-based tools for workflow automation and continuous improvement.
  • Strong Added Advantage: Prior knowledge of WWAN technologies (4G/LTE, 5G, 3GPP standards, cellular modem architecture) and Qualcomm WWAN chipsets and diagnostic tools (e.g., QXDM, QCAT).
  • Strong programming skills in Java, C, C++, and Python.
  • Experience analyzing network traffic and cellular logs using tools like Wireshark.
  • Should be good at multi-tasking and prioritizing issues based on urgency, customer, complexity, etc.

Key Skills and Competencies:

  • Core competency of triaging, debugging, and root-cause analysis in an Android environment, with an unrelenting drive to solve difficult technical puzzles.
  • Ability to dissect the necessary information in a problem description to fully understand the issue and know what additional questions to ask to gather all required information.
  • Excellent customer-facing communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to a variety of audiences (from developers to management to end customers).
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills, with a proven ability to work effectively across organizational units.
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git, Gerrit) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Self-motivated and self-starter with a high work ethic and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
